I guess a 70-30 lead can be called razor thin.
It won't shave you very well though.

(4,234 posts)(1) the most powerful and well-funded propaganda machines posing as media in the world. Money talks in the US as in no other place in the world.
(2) completely privatized vote-counting which means that it is possible to have almost any result that the owners and programmers of totally unverifiable black boxes want.
Gore I believe won the election in 2000 and John Kerry I believe won the election in 2004 but of course there's no way to know that since our elections are unverifiable. It's only my opinion (based on a lot of mostly circumstantial evidence) and opinions don't mean much unless they're extremely well-funded.
The American people are good-hearted in general and are generally right in their instincts and reactions but they are human after all and they are up against two great barriers to democratic expression.

(550 posts)I also think it's the case that the vast majority of children are naturally much, much, much more intelligent than approximately 40% of adults.
But how can that be? Why do people regress and end up markedly less intellectually capable at 45 than they were at 14?
As far as I'm concerned, there are so many factors that dumb people down past a certain age, today's Republican party is one (on so many levels, not least their fetish for chipping away at the education system), and the mainstream media another; that's a disgrace, let me tell you. It's not journalism, it's not information, it's cream puffery. To those spineless cock-faces they have to be "neutral" but evidently America just cannot produce good English teachers, because the belief in media circles is that being "neutral" means "dragging one party down to the other's level" instead of "non-partisan" or "open minded".
