Just wondering how his anti-war talk came across to Dick Cheney lovers?
Remember, it only needs to cause 1% of Romney's support to stay home to basically put the election away for Obama.
On edit: Other than him wanting to increase the military budget. All in all it sounded like he wanted to avoid war and was pretty graceful about it in pandering to the middle.

(9 posts)rather passive demeanor and answers will change the rights support. He is all they have, so it is the undecideds and independents that will sway this election. Best line though was Obama's "the 1980's are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back", reminded me of that Seinfeld episode.

(72,631 posts)Something is wrong with Romney tonight. He's refusing to challenge Obama's failed policies. He's sounding LIKE Obama. This is terrible.

(21,925 posts)with no core beliefs who will say anything to try to get elected. The radical right wing has to bear it because they hate Obama. And they know that if they get Romney elected, he'll immediately beat the war drum again if it suits his purposes.

(24,411 posts)...many Republicans. Primary voters seem to want anyone but Romney. They wanted Herman Cain. Then they wanted Santorum. Then, they entertain the idea of whatshisname from Texas. They didn't want Romney. They fought against him being their candidate.
I think we forget that the tea party hated Romney, and the freeper implosion that happened after Romney became inevitable.
So when Romney became Obama's echo tonight, you bet it pissed off some of the base. Remember, these are people who think that Michele Bachman is amazing and that Santorum is a great guy. These people just saw Romney do an about face and adopt Obama's Afghanistan policy and agree with him on most foreign policy issues.
You bet they're pissed. For this to do damage, it only needs to piss off and disillusion 1-2 percent of Republicans into staying home.
I think Romney's "softer" approach will be an utter failure for Romney. You can't piss off your base two weeks before an election.

(147 posts)Up is down and down is up from my world view and theirs. What to me would be a sane and rational approach (if I were hearing Romney for the first time and did not know his actual positions), is the exact oppossite perspective the radical right sees it as. They want John Wayne 24/7 365....as long as someone esle is doing the fighting of course. Oh, and it's only "rah rah, troops, rah rah rah" when a Republican is in office. I just don't see the constant, if any, references to Veterans and the troops fighting since a Democrat took over. Funny that. If it was about the troops and not politics then it should be the same ferver FOR the troops regardless of who is President.
