Ex-Mormons infinitely outnumber Ex-Gays

Few people chose their religion. Most people follow whatever religion their parents handed them.

But not all. There are lots of ex-catholics, ex-evangelicals and ex-Mormons. Lots of 'em.

There are not many ex-gays. That is more like being ex-Pacific Islander.

I am sympathetic to family traditions, but being a Mormon is not genetic. It is cultural and to some degree optional... a lot more optional than being black, gay, female, indian or any of the other things Mormons are not too keen on.

The Confederate flag cult is almost as old as LDS, and at least as big. I don't respect "Heritage Not Hate" today. Shall I respect "Faith Not Hate" tomorrow?

When a religion exists to aggressively target and oppose gay rights, after 150 years of bigotry toward blacks, women, indians, Christians, and anyone else who got in the way then one starts to think that perhaps there is some moral defect at the top of the hierarchy.

And calling something a religion is not a sensible moral get out of jail free card.

If Karl Rove's American Crossroads called itself a religion would I change my view of it?

Shall I respect the night rallies as largely spiritual expressions of germanic/Teutonic myth and archetype in the service of ethnic solidarity?

If the American Southern Baptist Convention voted to make it a matter of creed that Obama was born in Kenya would that change anything?
