United Nations to monitor elections for voter fraud suppression by conservatives

http://politics.kfyi.com/cc-common/mainheadlines3.html?feed=104707&article=10511105

(Erica Ritz) -- The Hill is reporting that The Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democracy and human rights projects, will be deploying several dozen observers across the United States amid concerns of voter suppression. Alerted by left-leaning civil rights groups, they are apparently on the lookout for “systematic” efforts to prevent minorities from voting for President Obama.

The Hill continues:

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the NAACP and the ACLU, among other groups, warned this month in a letter to Daan Everts, a senior official with OSCE, of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans — particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”

The request for foreign monitoring of election sites drew a strong rebuke from Catherine Engelbrecht, founder and president of True the Vote, a conservative-leaning group seeking to crack down on election fraud.

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers from its human rights office around the country on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places. It's part of a broader observation mission that will send out an additional 80 to 90 members of parliament from nearly 30 countries.

This is the stuff that needs to be done in other parts of the world.

This is a result of how radical the republicans and their teabagger cohorts in terror.

6. The OSCE assessed elections in the United States since 2002.

from the article in The Hill:

The OSCE has 56 participating states from Europe, Central Asia and North America, including the United States and Canada. It has assessed elections in the United States since 2002.

Here's an article from 2004: House requests UN election supervision The author of this article isn't exactly in favor of the request... calling it "an egregious overstepping of their authority as members of the House of Representatives", but I'm sure further searches would identify real supporters.

On July 1, 2004, eleven members of the U.S. House of Representatives corresponded with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anann. The purpose of their communication was to request United Nations supervision of the November 4, 2004 presidential election.

As a member of the international community, we firmly believe in the importance of international human rights law and its applicability and relevance to the U.S. Given the deeply troubling events of the 2000 election and the growing concerns about the lack of necessary reforms and potential for abuse in the 2004 election, we believe that the engagement of international election monitors has the potential to expedite the necessary reform as well as reduce the likelihood of questionable practices and voter disenfranchisement on Election Day.

In addition, we believe that international oversight is critical in this election not only because of the role the U.S. has in the world, but also because the issues related to the methodology of elections inside the United States, such as the use of electronic and paperless voting technology, are likely to have international impact. The danger that these methodologies could become a standard to be exported and emulated involves broader issues of demo

Voter fraud is rare in the extreme. Voter suppression (voter id laws, caging, purging, tossing out registration forms, intimidation at the polls, jamming GOTV phone lines, mailers with false voting day dates, short-changing certain neighborhoods by reducing the number of machines and polling places...) is a systematic issue and the elements combined are the new Jim Crow laws in regards to voting.

we need paper ballots, we need, I know the bane of many. a NATIONAL ID system, that is free, and clearly done to ensure the rolls are clean. and clear ballot boxes.

Oh wait, I am describing what it took for the OSCE to certify elections in Mexico.

I will be going to my corner now.

9. True the Vote has no interest in "cracking down on election fraud"

Election fraud is what we're seeing happen in the form of voter suppression, voter intimidation, one party dumping bags full of voter registrations of the other party in the garbage, and one candidate with direct ties to companies who own voting machines - and not a damn thing being done about any of this. THAT is election fraud. "True the Vote" isn't interested in curtailing any of that. They are PART of it!

What "True the Vote" is interested in "cracking down" on is something that statistically doesn't EXIST: voter fraud. The org insist that voters vote fraudulently. And statistically, the occurrences of such are negligible.

As for ELECTION fraud, in my own opinion, "True the Vote" is a participant in that and part and parcel of that problem. In fact it's their sole reason for existence - to do what - intimidate voters, suppress the vote, slow down lines on election day, etc. - in other words COMMIT ELECTION FRAUD. And they're using claims of non-existent "voter fraud" to do it.

I hope people realize this - it's more than just semantics. It's the damn truth of what is going on here. It's pretentious. It's dishonest. It's devious. It's insidious. And it ought to be illegal, if it already isn't. Trouble is, no one seems to have any interest in fixing our pathetic third-world-like broken-as-shit election system. And there isn't ONE damn good excuse for that. Not ONE.

this thread has only 9 responses, but let someone post some stupid shit like "How about a Clinton/Bigfoot (or some other ridiculous pairing) in 2016 ticket", and the dumb ass thread will get 200 responses.
