(81,523 posts)he never raised a gun against his fellow man. Kinda chokes me up even to write these words.
And I, too, am offended almost beyond imagining. WHO THE FUCK DOES SHE THINK SHE IS????? HER SONS "SERVED"????????
Well, her shitty-ass husband said so, too, about himself. "I served. In the private sector."
These people utterly disgust me. I actually am beginning to think these people are more vile than george w. bush and dick cheney.
My main hope for them is that they get their ultimate comeuppance sometime during my lifetime, so I can watch and thoroughly enjoy.

(61,712 posts)I have nothing against people who choose not to serve. I never served in the military. But I would never ever ever dream of going around saying "I served - in the private sector."
Who do these people think they are. That's the question, exactly.

(2,132 posts)I spent 12 years in the guard and reserve, but I didn't deploy (not by choice, just wasn't in the right place at the right time). I consider myself a veteran, but just barely one.
To say that those boys "served" our country is just disgusting.

(40,416 posts)If you don't, you don't know anything about combat! All my sons suffer from PTSD from all those slamming doors. The horror of it, especially in France, where they all drink... coffee!!
Dun... Dun... Dunnnnn!
Here's JS Bach's view of coffee:
It's good stuff. Too bad Bach didn't compose a "Chocolate Cantata" or a "Beer Cantata"
Nevertheless, I will settle for the wonderful music of his "Coffee Cantata". Tastes good!
Would Willard listen to it?
on edit: YouTube is incomplete. It is merely a taste. Father (who opposes coffe consumption) and daughter (who cannot live without it) eventually settle their disagreement over steaming hot cups of Joe.
"Coffee! Coffee! I cannot live without my coffee!"
Bach rules!!!

The people advising this campaign would be the people advising President Romney. Imagine that.

(17,865 posts)To even begin to equate the two has got to be offensive to anyone who served in the military and especially to those in a time of war. I always thought you could do it to the tune of "Fortunate Son". Nice cheap below the belt and called for.

(13,877 posts)I did not realize they all went abroad.
But yes, riding a bicycle around with buddies all with starched white shirts fighting the foreign traffic, Book of Mormon in hand is so comparable to riding in a tank dressed with cammo fighting another "foreign traffic" encounter with grenades and IEDs ...I feel sick just thinking about it.

(3,521 posts)orf where they are sent. I wonder how come the Rmoney boys were ll sent to relatively nice places. I do agree, in principle anyway, with Ann on one thing. There ARE ways to serve your country other than the military. Riding around in a white shirt on a bicycle with the book of moran in your hand and bothering people, however, is not one of them.

(10,584 posts)When I was on my mission one would do a couple interviews and get your call. They asked if you wanted to learn a language, how successful you think you would be at learning it and how much money you could afford to spend each month. Each missionary pays their own way (or family and friends help out). Where you go was partially dependent on what you could pay. In 1991 that all changed, everyone pays the same amount regardless of where you go - that's why the youngest went to Chile, it was after the change.
