It is remarkable and unmatched. Until Obama, the Clinton machine was the big name in grassroots campaigning. Howard Dean blazed some trails. Obama brought everything they brought and more, so much more.
Team Obama swept into town, recruited volunteers and donors so completely it was slim pickin's for the rest of the ballot.
They aren't working MI this year as they did in 08 so it's a bit easier for those down-ticket but Obama's certainly got a presence. The local Dems have bought thousands of Obama/Biden lawn-signs and bumper stickers and they go quickly. Everyone comes to the office to get them, donate, and often volunteer.
It is campaign centric where, up until 08 most of the local efforts throughout various states were from a state party coordinated campaign or some party related effort. Obama didn't and doesn't rely on that sort of thing anything like all those campaigns that came before him.
I think it is really remarkable and it's been fascinating to see it in action.
