NC Early Voting Day 3: Epic Turnout - 42,709 "Unlikely" Voters Have Already Voted
by MattTX
Since yesterday's update, we found some missing voters, thanks to commenter dean4ever. Not all counties always manage to update their early vote numbers in time for the statewide update, so some votes will keep trickling in from previous days. Taking these voters into account, Obama is doing better than previously thought. For example, my previous diary said that Day 1 turnout was 156,129 votes. But now, with the late updating counties included, we are up to 171,055. Because of the late updating counties problem, these diaries will tend to underestimate actual turnout to some degree, for the most recent days.
Click on the picture below for a full sized chart.
Turnout so far in 2012 early voting can only be described as epic. Yesterday's diary reported that turnout was up 26.6% above 2008. Now with updated data, turnout is 36.6% above 2008. And that number will only go up even further if there are still some counties lagging behind.

(1,301 posts)I am from NC voted Friday and the poll(where I voted) was slammed...lots of new
registrations going on and several waiting...I think NC has been underestimated
by the pollsters...

Register and vote on the same day!

(53,061 posts)Unlikely and un-registered too. In NC, you can register and vote early on the same day.
Go, unlikely voters!

(3,491 posts)during the early voting period which runs through November 3rd. To vote on Election Day, you had to be registered by 10-12.
One thing to keep in mind about voting in NC. If you've moved one or more times since you last voted and haven't updated your registration, you can go to your previous polling place on Election Day and give the address that you lived at at that time. You can also do this during the early voting period as well.
If the address you give matches what they have on their voting roll, you'll be given a ballot for the precinct you voted in before.

(3,491 posts)does anyone know if part of the "register and vote on the same day" program includes the chance to update your registration with your correct address if that's what you'd like to do?

(19,841 posts)both sides are out in force.
Your vote sure counts in NC!

(44,974 posts)So if both sides out in force, I think we have shot at it. We might not even need OH then.

(11,243 posts)I worked with a large coalition of progressive groups in NC to get the Same Day Registration law passed. Soooooo excited to see people using it! Would love to see it affect the national political scene by throwing NC into the blue column.

(44,974 posts)Considering how small the margin for Obama was last time.

(11,243 posts)I have been telling all the people I canvass to bring a friend to Early Vote because they can register on the spot. I guess others are getting the word out too

(2,332 posts)He is registered to vote in FL. but left his ballot completed for me send. I havnt sent it yet. What is better for Obama that brother registers there and votes there or that I mail his absentee ballot here in FL?
That's a question he just asked me- didn't know what to respond.
Any help DUErs?

(2,730 posts)I don't know what Chuck Todd and the media sees for Romney being ahead in North Carolina at this point? Here are some up to date stats in early voting:
Dems 50.2%
Rep 31.2%
White 65.6%
Black 29.%
other 4.5%
Total vote: 457,825 people
It looks like 2008. The African American vote is 29% of the electorate so far which is higher than 2008. The white vote is lower at this stage than 2008. The total African American registration is over 100,000 than in 2008. Those are new voters. If you were going by actual voters, Romney would be behind.

(27,670 posts)I often screw up with Microsoft Excel like this when carrying scheduling tables over from previous weeks.
2012 table has the 2012 dates correct until third column, 10/18, and then follows the 2008 date progression.

(21,215 posts)Everyone should early vote so we have a big cushion coming in on election day. Karl Rove and his organized crime syndicate called the republican party can't touch those votes. We are all watching these totals going up daily in favor of the President.

(13,431 posts)Obama's Day 3 2012 total is ahead of Obama's Day 4 2008 total; but Robme's Day 3 total is ahead of McLame's 2008 Day 5 today. That's a one day advantage for the evildoers. Plus, Obama's 2012 Day 3 margin is only ahead of Obama's Day 2 2008 margin, which is a day's loss. Then there is the 2012 % Obama margin which is already a couple of points lower than the 2008 % Obama margin. That margin needs to be higher. In 2008, Obama lost just over 7 points from his Day 3 % Obama lead when compared to the final overall 2008 results in NC. If that happens again this year, we lose the state.
Yes, it's great that more people are voting early. However, I'm not convinced Obama is racking up the numbers he needs to win NC.
Sebass1271
(2,332 posts)But we still have more days.
LisaL
(44,974 posts)more republicans could be voting early in 2012 than they did in 2008. We do have a large registration advantage in NC.
