Who is Colin Small?

You may have seen yesterday that Colin Small is a despicable Republican operative who tossed Democratic voter registration forms in a dumpster and got busted for it. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021572716

He is facing multiple misdemeanor and felony charges for this act. I keep seeing him referred to as a hire as a GOP operative within the state. From what I see on his LinkedIn profile that is not the case at all. His profile claims that his title is:

"Grassroots Field Director at Republican National Committee"

The description of his role is: "Manage a team of 15-20 grassroots canvassers, conducting voter registration drives, staffing political rallies, organizing Get Out the Vote Efforts." The site shows that to be his current position.

This seems important to me! Will somebody help me out here by telling me what I'm missing? Why am I not seeing anything about this fact? This does not appear to be an operative in a state working for some organization. This appears to be an RNC operative. I would expect this information to be included in any article about this guy. I would expect it to be big news here on DU. What am I missing?

A campaign worker linked to a controversial Republican consulting firm has been arrested in Virginia and charged with throwing voter registration forms into a dumpster.

The suspect, Colin Small, 31, was described by a local law enforcement official as a "supervisor" in a Republican Party financed operation to register voters in Rockingham County in rural Virginia, a key swing state in the Nov. 6 election.

There is a difference between a "consulting firm" and the RNC. Is he lying on his LinkedIn profile or is his position being downplayed? This is where I'm seeing a disconnect. This is what I'm hoping someone will explain to me.

What are the chances that this guy would support tossing Democratic registration forms and not at least hint to his canvassers that it would be alright to do the same? It is always R's that get caught up in these sorts of tactics. No shame.
