Manstr Guardian: Romney Will Lose His Home State By Wider Margin Than Any Other Candidate In History

Romney poised to lose home state by wider margin than any other candidate

"Mitt Romney's current standing in the polls in Massachusetts gives him the dubious honour of being more unpopular in his home state than any presidential candidate in modern history."

He was the governor of MA, but as a MA resident, I must correct you that this is NOT his home state. His home state is Michigan. However, with numerous homes all over the country in order to "prove" where he resides when he needs to prove it (in order to fit his agenda), you could be considered correct! Damn, I detest the man.

Both the pres. and VP candidates can't be from the same state, so Darth instantly became a resident of Wyoming rather than a resident of the state he actually lived in, Texas. Funny how that happened.

the only restriction is that in the electoral college, ELECTORS from that same state (texas in this case) can't vote for BOTH.
so in practice, they would have voted shrub for prez and abstained or voted for their aunt for veep.

had that happened, shrub would have become president, and then, with no one getting a majority of veep electoral votes, the house would have decided, and of course they would have given it to cheney.

Why did Darth decide to pull the whole insta-move to Wyoming then, I wonder? Just to simplify the process? Imagine that electoral college VP mess tacked on to the end of the 2000 election debacle. Jeez.

if you're running for president, you don't want all these questions about the legitimacy of your choice or esoteric constitutional procedures. even if it's technically no problem, it makes people question your ticket and perhaps vote for the other guy.

and then, if the house is controlled by the other party, there's always that chance that you win but your running mate doesn't, and the house decides to stick you with the their guy instead.

good lord, if that happened to me (ha!) first thing i'd do would be triple my secret service detail! i'd get bodyguards for my bodyguards!

He moved to Texas to run Halliburton.

The Constitution says, the electors meet and cast votes for the president and the VP, at least one of which must be from a state other than their own. It would be okay for both candidates to be from Wyoming - three EV almost certainly wouldn't swing an election. Texas, OTOH, has 37 EV, which would swing the election.

I don't know why his favorability rating upon leaving office (wasn't it something like 35%?--it was Bushlike, anyway) isn't a bigger deal. I mean, what could be a better example of "this has been tried before and nobody liked it"?

I haven't heard anything about this until now. Hey, when I'm hiring someone at my workplace, I do take into consideration how they are viewed by past employers.

I don't think he even has a home state, unless you count the state of Michigan where he was born/assembled/hatched.

We don't say things like "the trees are just the right height." There are no Mormons here. Mitt sounds and talks like a mid westerner. He grew up in Michigan, that is his one and only home state. Mass was simply where he went to make money and find a Governorship.

At least not in Connecticut or the part of Mass near the CT border (Springfield, etc.) I have never met a Mormon in CT, actually, I have met plenty of Jehovah Witnesses though. We seem to be inundated with them in Litchfield County in Connecticut.
