I'm not sure if this is were this belongs but I need advice

My girlfriend and her Mom live in Northwest Indiana, specifically Griffith. They were both out of work for about 3 months and now they are having financial issues. They are one month behind on rent and the landlord is working with them but they are looking for help right now to catch up. Does anyone know any programs or charities in that area that could be of any help? I usually don't like to air my personal business on the internet but I'm worried especially because we just found out that her last uncle, her moms brother, has stage four pancreas cancer and it seems like things are going from bad to worst every day. If anyone could help out with some advice or knows any programs I would be eternally grateful.

If they don't have (m)any assets, they should apply for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) and food stamps. That will help alleviate some of the bills (food & energy) that will be coming.

For Liheap in Indiana information:
http://www.benefits.gov/benefits/benefit-details/1535

For food stamp information:

Another link I found that might be helpful:

Also if they belong to a church, sometimes/(many times?) the church will help out if they know a parishioner is in need.

Hope this helps. Best of luck to your gf and her mom to get on their feet again soon!
