He sort of expected or actually wanted Obama to continue, hoping that he could call him on something that he would say and then realized he was in some sort of trouble, didn't know what it was, and started stumbling and stuttering.

He wanted Obama to say he had said something that he did not say. Romney was imagining that clip being played over and over.

Hey had no idea that he'd just made what should be a campaign ending mistake in a debate.
