These undecided voters are more accurately described as "unengaged" voters.

I see them as people who have previously paid no attention whatsoever to politics or current political issues. I have known people like this. They don't watch news, they don't read news, and they don't have an interest in the news. They go to work, watch entertainment television shows, read fiction, but pay no attention to the world around them. I am not saying that they are not good people or that they are not intelligent people. But, the truth, I think, is that the reason they don't know who to vote for is that they don't have political opinions, and that is because they never paid enough attention to politics to develop any opinions.

I once knew someone who told me she voted for people based on whether or not she liked the way their name sounded.

though, on the unengaged part.

I deleted a fundraising message that started with "I'm not political" but then went on about how this woman got all political when her child needed healthcare. I'm sorry her child is sick, but mom admitting she never gave a crap about what happens in this country until now makes it damn easy to hit the delete button.

Some, I admit, is pure escapism and helps me avoid the world around me! But I know what you mean - for some people that's ALL they do!
