Vicious Rand Paul ad latest GOP attack on McCaskill
Todd Akin keeps getting more and more help in his bid in Missouri to unseat U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Kentucky Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s SuperPAC is financing a vicious ad that rips McCaskill for supporting foreign aid to Middle Eastern countries.
A sampler: “Our debt keeps climbing. But Claire McCaskill works with Barack Obama to send our money overseas to radicals who attack our embassies, burn our flag and kill our diplomats.”
Of course, foreign aid is an extremely small part of the U.S. budget. And foreign aid does so much good for U.S. relations with other parts of the world that it’s a (not so surprising) shame this ad doesn’t acknowledge that fact.
On Monday, the National Federation of Independent Businesses endorsed Akin. The group, despite its name, is a GOP-leaning organization that’s particularly opposed to Obamacare.
Also Monday, as I noted in this post, Akin continues to lead McCaskill, 49 to 45 percent, in a poll taken by Wenzel Strategies, which is a GOP-leaning pollster. That’s opposite of what other polls show; they have McCaskill up by up to 6 percentage points.
(On Tuesday afternoon, McCaskill’s forces released their own positive information: An internal poll for them shows the senator with a 52-38 percent lead over Akin.)
