They come in a few varieties, I've felt 3 different types:

1) first one was a Mag.4.2 "Roller" where it felt like the house had suddenly been transformed in to a small boat on a rolling sea, that was the most fun.

2) Was a Drop. Felt like someone just picked up the house and dropped it back down in one big "Clunk."

The top two were in California

3) The 3rd one I felt was in St. Louis and it was a vibrator/shaker type, felt like a big truck was driving down the street outside the front door.

Was it like any of those?

Lake Arrowhead, Maine.

My cat was in the stairwell hiding so I figured we were in for some thunder. He's a weather predictor that way.

Next thing, the computer hutch is shaking, doors a bangin' and ... sound like a whoosh. I think it lasted about 8 seconds.
In Mass. near Boston.

I live right in Boston and I didn't feel anything. Maybe it's because I lived in San Francisco for a while and got used to small quakes.

I felt it too. Not much. Just a little thump. I thought it was the cats jumping onto the floor, but my daughter felt the kitchen table shake. Hey, it's ain't southern California, but it was an earthquake.
