Hopefully it only stays as praying for Weinstein's death.
USAFA Classmate Threatens Imprecatory Prayer if Mikey Weinstein Attends Class Reunion

Next week, Mikey Weinstein, the founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), will be attending the 25th reunion of his class at the Air Force Academy. Apparently, some of his "Spirit-filled born again Christian" classmates have a problem with this, threatening imprecatory prayers to put the Psalm 109 whammy on him if he shows up.
Here's the email Mikey got from one of his "Spirit-filled born again Christian" classmates the other day. (I've inserted asterisks with explanations below for a few things this guy is refers to in his "Spirit-filled" email.)

Good evening Michael Weinstein. I am a classmate of yours from the USAF Academy Class of 1977. I have written to you before. I am a Spirit-filled born again Christian. My wife is a spirit-filled born again Christian and my children are as well. I came to the Lord during my years as a cadet at the Academy. A number of your classmates have asked me to convey a simple message to you. It is a two part message. First, we ask you to reconsider coming to our 35th reunion next week. Yes, we found out you are coming. And second we ask you to believe in and fear the Power of Prayer if you refuse to reconsider.

Those people might be typical Christians, but they aren't very Christ like. No, not at all.

(9,385 posts)These are the people who speak in "tongues" (i.e. gibberish) and believe God speaks to them (i.e. any thought that floats through their mind is God talking). They are half a baby step away from Son of Sam. They're taught that their minds are satanic, and to trust their feelings.
Cult brainwashed, heavily. All of it masquerading as "christian" but is most certainly not.

(10,340 posts)That's what 'Praying Psalms 109' refers to - in these scriptures, David is praying for God to kill his enemy.
These are not very rational people. One of them could very well decide that God wants to use them as the instrument for carrying out that death sentence, much the way anti-abortion terrorists claim that they are carrying out God's will by killing abortion providers.

(20,599 posts)Nye is outright hostile to those of us who wish to be free of religious "morality", such as it is. I've never seen him respond rationally to anyone who opposes religion's unwanted and unwelcome influence in their lives.
Just put him on ignore. He has nothing useful to say.

(14,732 posts)He has been waging an implacable war against the evangelization at the US Air Force Academy (from which both he and his two sons are graduates) for years now. This among all the service academies seems to be the leader in both forced evangelization of the cadet corps and in strident anti-semitism as well. That type of thing has no place in an honored institution such as the Air Force Academy. For fighting this fight for all of us I believe he deserves our respect and support.

Whoever Michael Weinstein is, he's far better than these rotten creeps. And I wish him well.

(15,888 posts)You wouldn't know it by this statement; from the article:
<snip>
Let me be clear. None of us will harm you or your wife. That would be illegal and wrong. It is not our place to mete out the justice and punishment you and your followers deserve and have earned. We won't have to. The Lord will. It is our God-given right to pray for His intervention and protection from your evil. Even under the Constitution you worship as an idol in place of the Son of God.

(938 posts)the "fruits of the spirit" - i.e. what follows becoming a "spirit-filled" Christian are...
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23, New International Version (NIV)
Maybe some of these "spirit-filled Christians" who are using Psalm 109 need to check which spirit is filling THEM, before they attack Weinstein.
They so flagrantly ignore the whole "do unto others" message of the New Testament.
