Please people: no bedwetting tonight. I dont care what happens, Im saying Obama crushed it (football fans: do you find that Corona ad as annoying as I do?).
If Romney stood up there and talked about the right heights of trees for 90 minutes, Jennifer Rubin would say he had Churchillian eloquence and Reaganesque charisma. We can take a page from her book.

He's the superior candidate and no matter what the pundits say he wins!!!!!

(20,043 posts)gal. Prez O had done a great job. He's a winner in my book. I will defend him against the right wing no matter what, and I'm not afraid to admit that. I will play by the same rules they do. Damn straight.
Ride or die, especially when I know the policies the other side want to put in play take the die part literally.
Besides I'm a Cowboys fan, I know what it means to be loyal.

(14,572 posts)as noted, the Rs already know how they are framing the debate, and have people lined up to scream it.
BO's team needs to know what the frame is and have people ready to scream it.
The first debate set the battle grounds for debates in this election - what is said does not matter, beta male performance and spin determine the winner.

(21,977 posts)I enthusiastically support the President. But I'm not the one on stage tonight, and neither are you. None of his supporters are.
It's up to him. He has to perform masterfully. I believe he can. We shall see if he will or not. I'm a realist. I deal in FACTS. If he blows it, I'm not going to proclaim how he "crushed it." We will all know how he does, and so will everyone else. But it's up to HIM.

(46,416 posts)they didn't go around with pee running down their legs and saying Ryan "shit the bed" and other colorful language I've seen on DU. No, they DEFENDED THEIR GUY and ATTACKED the other side. And the media played along. It's all in the spin.

(50,414 posts)Sounds a lot like the "Bury ones head in the sand" philosophy of politicking.
I look at the "debates" the same way I look at commercials. Two brands selling their products. If one does a poor job of selling to the audience that's the problem. Not the problem of the audience.
TwilightGardener
(46,416 posts)you feel it wasn't their best showing? I can--ESPECIALLY when I know that that person is on my side and I need him to win, LOL.

(14,572 posts)this one, it does.
maybe not with nobodies like us, but the media, most certainly.
the rules of the game for debates this election were set in the first one - they don't give a rats tail what is said, Alpha male dominance and spin rule the day.

(20,776 posts)I know it will be different, as a town hall forum, but I am hoping that those who know how to use strategy will give The President the Edge. I want to see him sparkle tonight, like as if it was the 4th of July.

(982 posts)so that when they steal the election, we will all believe that there must have been a bunch of stupid people who voted for him.
No Republicans actually thought Romney won, or Ryan won. They were demoralized. They have no arguments. They are proven liars full of canned talking points and nothing else.
How many people actually know real people who really like Romney?
People who were won over by Romney in that debate?
Anyone?

(32,623 posts)I'm glad when he gets past worrying about him and his family living through all of this.
He's so smart and kind and good. His plans are solid and I really believe that, although not as liberal as many of us, his heart is way to the left of the many things he has been able to accomplish.
I pray tonight he will be strong and wise. He knows the stakes and counted too heavily on facts and American intellect last time. He trusted that substance carry more weight than any razzle dazzle policy re-writes.
Turns out I like him even more for having taken that approach.
Cosmocat
(14,572 posts)I do, and I think has has been a darn fine president.
He has to ring the bell, whatever that may look like, tonight.

(22,143 posts)That's for the wingnuts to do. I'm confident that the President will be herds better tonight but if he's not I'm calling it as I see it.

TwilightGardener
(46,416 posts)If he didn't act like an utter jackass, make a gaffe, etc., then give him credit. It's really not that hard to accentuate the positive and still be honorable. And if Mitt Romney lied like a rug and acted like a smarmy salesman, then ALSO say so--shout it from the rooftops.

(9,385 posts)Outside of DU there is also Facebook and Twitter, etc. No matter what the context, there is a lot of good that can be said about Obama, and there is a lot of bad that can be said about Robme. Nobody's integrity needs to get dinged, they each supply a lot of material to use
Or... we can focus on the one thing that Obama could possibly do wrong and the one thing that Robme could possibly do right... is that telling the truth? I don't think so.
