Anybody aware of the extensive oil operations between Artesia and Hobbs, NM? It is breathtaking (literally). There are thousands and thousands of new wells. Brand new Weatherford pumping rigs, huge generating facilities, refineries, and new drilling rigs. I've lived around the Oil Patch before, and I've never seen anything approaching this.
I did Las Cruces - Big Spring, Tx, today ... all on the back roads!
BTW: Both the Artesia and Hobbs airports have many new hangars, about the size for a Gulfstream V.
Twenty miles north of Big Spring, TX, tonight. Sorry, no pics of the big oil ops. I saw too much muscle along those roads.

Safe travels!

(15,806 posts)The county commissioners where I live are quite proud of the 19k+ wells in the county, and boast that more are coming. Having some pictures of what could happen to our community might inspire enough people to confront the commission.
By the way, back in the early 1970s I lived briefly in Hobbs. It was oil wells and pig farms and high school football. The people I worked with said that the people with the best jobs at the oil offices were those who had sons who could play football. I've never gone back.

(53,339 posts)That's on the edge of the Permian Basin, a huge oil production area that's been undergoing an expansion of drilling. Here's one trade magazine article from 2010 on the expansion:

And here's Romney speaking at Hobbs:

Have a safe trip home, Mac, and keep the pics coming.
