(28,151 posts)We've distributed literally of lawn-signs & bumper stickers! Additionally, there is a lot of excitement about the Presidential race and many people keep coming to the office to help. They happily work on all the campaigns!
I missed 08 in my state but, compared to 04 (a very big year here, everyone HATED Bush) this is very different. We certainly have the same level of interest in the race for the WH but it's very positive energy.
In 04 they were coming in and saying they hated Bush and wanted to help make sure he wasn't re-elected. This time around it's all about our candidate, as well as getting him a Dem Congress. We're in the 1st Cong. District now, since redistricting and we've got one of the 3 top Congressional races in the country.
On the county level we used to be lucky to have one, maybe two Dems to vote for. This year we have 12 Dems on the ballot. Great stuff!
We're fired and ready to go, for all our Dems up and down the ticket. This may be the year we get our county to actually go blue, instead of just enough pockets of blue to fall short. If it happens it will be thanks to the army of people who have shown up and worked tirelessly to make it happen.

(7 posts)I doubt we'll be able to turn Oklahoma to a blue state this year, but maybe in the future......not sure where to get updated information for voter registration, I found some from Jan. 15, 2012, at that time there were 115,026 more registered democrats then republicans. Today I read a post that at the Tulsa County Fair, repubs registered 1,000 voters and democrats registered 2.500. So maybe there's hope yet!!
We've only seen one Romney/Ryan bumper sticker; no yardsigns, in 2008 there were McCain/Palin yard signs and bumper stickers everywhere. This is first year the repubs have opened in office in our town, if that's what you want to call it, it's in an old run down Sinclair gas station, that's been turned into a used car dealership. From the looks of it, they're using it as an office and still running the dealership at the same time. lol Maybe they are little desperate??

Bill Clinton was just here campaigning for Joe Donnelly. He WILL BE the shocking winner and a Democratic pickup for Lugar's Senate seat this November.

(21,046 posts)Not even a yard sign.
The county chairs have to raise money from the locals or use their own money to rent a storefront, pay utilities, buy yard signs, etc.
The county chairs get NO MONEY from the State Democratic Party, nor the national party. I was told by a county chair with a non-existent organization that the Obama campaign is spending NO money in Texas, because it's a red state, although the big cities are Democratic.
After the shooting through the Obama HQs in Denver, while there were people there, I am terrified of putting an Obama sign in my yard and having myself, my husband, or our outside cats shot, or our property damaged. Lots of Angry White Guys With Guns here.
We have the place completely fenced, but a determined person could climb over the parts further from the house (6 ft chain link on the south lot and 6 ft wooden board fence on the north lot). Close to the house there is brick column and square tubing fence.

(28,151 posts)I mean there were NO Democrats in my city at one time. When the party was just getting started up here (zero outside support from any group) we sent out a letter asking people to join the party and take out a membership.
I did that mailing way back when and guess what. We got an amazing response! So many included little notes with their membership that said things like "So great to see this!".
One small group of very determined people has made a massive difference in in a blood red zone. And we raise a lot more money than the state party could ever give us.
But it took a LOT of work.
