(14,014 posts)In the debate when Biden and Raddatz were going back and forth, Ryan's expression looked like 'Wow, the grown-ups table'

That's a good video. I especially like the 'it has never worked comment'. I realized that Jack Kennedy did lower the top marginal tax rate by 20%. Of course that was from 90% to 70%. The wars had been paid off and the Ike administration was running a surplus. It kind of made sense.
Cutting the top rate by 20% right now is hardly the same.

(4,835 posts)It never occurred to me until Joe said "now you're Jack Kennedy."
That's gonna be the only time that cutting taxes by 20% stimulated the economy. If I'm not mistaken the deficit started creeping up then too (1960's).
They want everyone to believe that the economy was stimulated with Reagan's tax cut, but Reagan's tax cut didn't do anything until the deficit spending started kicking in (republicans lost control of the house in 1982). Reagans austerity measures were cut short, and the success of Reaganomics was actually brought on by the democrat controlled house's unwillingness to continue punishing the poor.
Reagan's 10% unemployment followed by a tripling of the deficit is hardly a recipe for success.
R&R have it exactly backwards on loopholes. They need to raise taxes and increase the loopholes because loopholes encourage spending. We need a policy where every cent spent on alternative energy comes directly off income for tax purposes.
Loopholes are how the government encourages good consumer behavior. Even the 'dressage horse' deduction encourages job growth in an industry. I'm sure Romney's $90 billion alternative energy spending figure involved a bunch of loopholes. when he talks about eliminating loopholes; that's probably what he's talking about.
Now I'm just rambling.

(81,267 posts)I like the "Bubble Boy" one with Biden holding a pin and a BIG SMILE! That's the best Biden drawing of the bunch, although, all you have to do is draw a white guy in a suit with white hair and a big toothy smile and pretty much everyone will know who that is.
