Anonymous breaks from Wikileaks, criticizing Assange (and his new $$$ demands for wikileaks access)
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/10/wikileaks-paywall-anonymous/
When you currently try to access many of the documents on wikileaks (
example), you are sent to an anti-Obama video by Assange and asked to donate $$$. You cannot read the documents without donating or marketing for the site on FB/Twitter.
However you feel about Assange, the wikileaks mission, or even Obama: isn't it rather incredible for a site devoted to freedom of information, a site entrusted with documents from whistle-blowers willing to risk everything, to be
charging the public for access?
@AnonymousIRC went further by dropping a long letter to Pastebin, explaining that it has had enough of WikiLeaks founder, concluding that WikiLeaks has lost its way and is consumed by Assanges legal troubles and ego instead of its mission of transparency.
And this following quote is arguably the most important one.
The conclusion for us is that we cannot support anymore what Wikileaks has become the One Man Julian Assange show. But we also want to make clear that we still support the original idea behind Wikileaks: Freedom of information and transparent governments. Sadly we realize that Wikileaks does not stand for this idea anymore."
If anybody has further information or updates, please share. For all we know, wikileaks may immediately change their policy.
