If you are confused about how to vote on some of the trickier stuff on the ballot in California (Like the South Coast Water District), I found this handy little reverse-cheat-sheet. Thank you Nancy Sandoval for putting together a convenient list of "Solid Christian Conservatives" for us to vote against.
Just look at her list and do the polar opposite of what she says. She has put a lot of time and effort into this and manages to identify even the sneaky stealth candidates.
Just be careful with her "NO" vote on Prop. 31. That may actually be a NO. It seems like everybody hates that one.

(6,476 posts)Thanks for sharing this. I passed it along to a friend in the LA area. I wonder if there are similar lists that can be found in other areas of the country. How did you find this?

(2,431 posts)I posted earlier about being confused about the local races in Orange County; I was trying to tie the names of the candidates for the South Coast Water district to Monsanto, a seemingly logical search... but I was coming up with nothing.
Then I noticed that Board candidate Gary Langdale had managed to get 'Gary "The Water Watchdog" Langdale' onto the official ballot. Guys that do that shit are almost always RW assholes, so I typed
"gary langdale" + issa(including the quotes) into Google and BINGO! Nancy's Picks came up second.
Thanks again, Nancy.

(2,431 posts)You could try
"name of someone running for city council in Richmond" + cantor
Or something similar.

(137 posts)I love how their Jesus feed and clothed the poor and hungry, cured the sick, etc, etc... yet they point out how ungodly the Democratic Candidate is who does the very things that Jesus did but when the Pub does everything that Jesus was against the Pub is the one they want people to vote for???
It takes a whole lot of stupid to vote for Pubs thinking they even remotely do anything that is close to the teachings of Jesus.

(195 posts)There's a nutty anti-choice woman who lives a few miles from me. I make a note of whose campaign signs she has on her lawn as I drive by and vote for the other guy. Saves me a lot of research in the local races, because the crazies seem to know who's on their side even if the candidate tries to appear centrist in public statements.

(6,476 posts)I'm wondering if by chance someone here at DU might have a list for PA...I'd love to get my hands on it.

(195 posts)As I remember, they are pretty good about keeping track of who is on their side, at least in regards to reproductive rights. Since they're a non-profit and cannot endorse candidates, there is a political branch of PP that does only this kind of thing and I recall in years past receiving candidate lists from them that were pretty complete.
On the other hand, you could identify crazy people in your community and see whose signs are on their lawns like I do.

(6,476 posts)I'll check with PP...as far as the crazies in my community I know who they are but it's the stealth candidates I'm most interested in. These people will run as democrats as well as republicans..I want to know who they are. Yard signs are few this year and most are for Obama/Biden. It's surprising but I live in a deep red area...I'm keen to see how they handle voting this year as I had a run in last election with being told I had to show ID to vote even when my name was on the roll. I disagreed that it was needed buy showed my ID anyway so I could vote unimpeded. With all the insanity about voter ID this year I'm more determined than ever and will be on the look out for self appointed 'poll watcher' of the Tcrazy kind interfering with people.

(195 posts)There are very few signs out in my area this time around, but so far they're all Romney/Ryan. Gives me a different feel about those neighbors.
Anyway, about the poll watchers. Since you are in PA, I can tell you with some authority that there are very specific rules about what watchers may and may not do in the Commonwealth. (I was a poll worker in N.E. PA for about a decade.) If you're concerned, check with your county/local election board for the specifics (rules might also be on-line) so that you're prepared to challenge them if they step out of line. Yes, poll workers are supposed to enforce the rules, but don't depend on it. Knowledge is always your best defense. You could also be a poll watcher yourself and work to ensure the voting rights of other people. I don't think you have to sign on to be there all day; the poll watchers we've had at my polling place have come in shifts of a few hours apiece. Most of them have been affiliated with a local candidate, political party or some sort of non-profit organization. These groups might be looking for poll watchers in your area, too. Be proactive!

(2,431 posts)I don't know dick about PA politics, but Bruce Kraus is Pittburgh's first openly gay city councilman. You could get some clues about the other local stuff if you find out who's endorsing him.

(6,476 posts)but that's a good idea. I'll do some research. I already called the local college health center to find out if they make morning after pills available to students and was happy to hear they do. We used to have a PP here in our little town but it's no longer there...I'm not sure why but I suspect it's due to local church activity. We have some of the worst fundamentalists here..
Thanks!
