I've seen several doom and gloom threads, all from low post counters.
Ignore them and let them sink.
It shows to me Biden hit a nerve, and I do love that their onions are good and scorched.

it's the politics of demoralization
they are very scared. Their Mittens gave it his best, but his best wasn't good enough, and little Glove was horrible. They have been exposed and have nothing left.
Showed their Ryan to be not ready for primetime same as Sarah and Quayle weren't qualified.

(28,158 posts)Pooh. Your just like my mom. "Don't be mean back to them, darling. No matter how much they goad you, you must remember they didn't have the advantage of the family you had growing up."
I don't think my mom knew they were gonna grow up to be hate filled Teabaggers though. Maybe she would have just let me verbally put them in their childish, bully place back then if she'd known.

(28,158 posts)Something like, one small poke with the sharp stick of truth, but only for every tenth one we see?
It's all about personal restraint. However, stay out of Politics 2012 if you set this restraint. They're a dime a dozen there. You'll spend all your time poking and no time getting anything else done!

(2,391 posts)But then some DUers jump in and say, "Don't be so meeeeaaaan!" Which just enables the trolls and starts them up again. I can't believe we actually have to yell, "TROLL!" before saying anything else. Silly.

(28,158 posts)DU has no room to talk about being mean. Zero. Trust me on that one.
I started out here close to this time of year in 2004. I was called a troll and I'm a better Democrat for it. I am mean now, and DU is in part responsible for my "take no crap" attitude. I owe this place more than I can ever repay for making me able to stand up to the Rightwingers. Now I'm tough, and educated on the issues.
This isn't the "good old days" of politics. It's an age of Teabaggers trying to steal my rights. And in some states, they're doing just that!
Sometimes a little poking is a good thing. It separates the wheat from the chaff. Or the Democrats from the trolls, as the case may be.

(452 posts)A educated mass is a good thing. We educate them so that everyone can spot what is going on. He/she will be back in a hour. I would however point out that when the OP answered questions in the thread it was with the word NO. No matter what anyone said it was that persons answer that only mattered.

(28,158 posts)And a resource of information.
I've learned from here how to effectively stand up for my rights. Both as a Democrat, and as a Democrat living in Texas. No easy thing to be on DU at times.
I've learned how to frame modern political arguments. How to debate, and debunk current RW political memes.
The admin would be proud if they saw me in the field. I'm tough, and I never have to lose my cool. I'm a lean, mean, political fighting machine. Which I was not when I first found this place. I was too polite, too sweet. Now I'm as polite as I can be, but I am not walked on by the lying RWers.
This place has taught me much. I'm a modern Democrat now, version 2.0.

(9,314 posts)complaining about the Dems who do not stand up for Gore during the recount controversy. To say I was repeatedly flamed is kind of an understatement. I personally do not like to fight; I like civil conversations when it comes to politics but I was angry at the Dems who abandoned Gore at the time he most needed them, and I wanted answers. Those flames made a fighter out of me too, I didn't back down, and eventually some even came to agree with me. I have been here for a long time and made some great friends, but I am a different person now than when I came here -- for the better.

(26,355 posts)This is our board. This is a board for Democrats and Progressives. For right-wingers and authoritarian flaks to misrepresent themselves to poison discussion here is inherently dishonest and disrespectful to us.
Fuck 'em. I'd rather inflict PTSD on them.

(13,485 posts)Most trolls I have dealt with on other sites enjoy the attention actually. Dogpile them and they ignore you.
The most effective thing you can do is single word them if you can make them slip or ignore. If you have the power, you just extinguish them which removes their fun and bye bye.

(443 posts)beware of the negative posts and hand wringers. They will drag you down with their endless anxiety laced posts. Worrying is absolutely pointless. Worrying more will do nothing positive, but it can do damage. There is no upside, no pay off, it is only damaging to the morale of those around you. Eeyore doesn't make you feel like going out and taking up a challenge it makes you want to give up and quit. This is too important of an election to quit. We don't quit until the last ballot is counted.
"One of the most powerful yet commonly overlooked aspects of warfare is that of psychological manipulation. People are often made so aware of the brutality and violence of war itself, that they ignore a commonly employed weapon, known as psychological warfare. World War II offers a vivid example of psychological warfare and they way it was employed to target the morale and sentiment of numerous troops. The most fascinating means of dissemination was in the form of leaflets dropped from bomber planes. These paper filled bombs contained messages intended to curb the motivation and enthusiasm of the soldiers. For example, some leaflets depicted scenes of marital infidelity, a theme that no doubt touched on an insecurity felt by many soldiers. The power of psychological warfare, when performed succesfully, is the inability of those being brainwashed to defend themselves against its effect. Psychological warfare aims at the insecurities and desires of its targets and uses these as a means of acheiving objectives."

(31,234 posts)pleasant DU experience for the past few days. Even some long timers (you know the ones), who weren't joining in the celebration when the polling was good, couldn't wait to get back here as soon as the polling took a turn. One particularly disgusting post, in this very thread, was allowed to stand by "a jury".
Their job is to demoralize, but let's see what next week's polling, and a brand new debate bring.
