General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsBS: Ed etc. kept saying Joe Biden's performance satisfied "The Base" thereby reducing his win to
a partisan victory that was just part of a DNC game to rev up the base. This is a crappy narrative because the debates are for everyone. Plenty of people who are not "The Base" and who have never worked for the campaign were impressed with Joe Biden.
That was just another know-it-all statement from team msnbc that was deflating. I believe they are all about proving their "professionalism" to the point of corrupting the facts.
It's disgusting to think they give a pass to lyin' Ryan on anything! Tweety said Lyin' won on foreign policy! This is all about Tweety keeping some kind of credibility with the right and not backing down from kissing Romney butt last week.

(39,332 posts)but I think a part of him sees Biden as part of the elite and his "base" is the working class.
There's something going on. It's not just Biden either. However way back when, say a month ago, he was very supportive of Obama.
I need to try to quit my addiction to Ed and Tweety, my life will be calmer.

(62,683 posts)Biden got some undecideds, I've no doubt, and they can both add to that in the coming weeks.
I think Ed IS 100% behind Obama.

(39,332 posts)He certainly was up until the last week. What bothers me is that he went on and on about Obama's bad performance when Mitt Romney used underhanded tactics and lied. Why not stay focused on that? This is where it looks suspicious to me. Also the lukewarm reaction to Joe Biden. It seems like he's very critical suddenly.

(1,828 posts)I turned him off some time ago. I had to drop Rachel as well, who I love, but since she's returned to her "TALK ME DOWN!" ways, I just can't stomach her. It's a shame, really. I had really come to enjoy them, but it's like as soon as an election draws near, all they do is tear down the Democrats for not being perfect candidates while they should be tearing down the REpublicans for the lying and manipulation.
Reminds me of the purist Nader voters of 2000 in Florida. You can't be a purist in politics. You have to pick from the candidates who have a real shot of winning. Would it be nice to have a more-than-two-party system? Yes. Do we have one that works? No. Not for the White House. So shut up and pick a side. And then stick to it. Stop denigrating it for ratings.

(39,332 posts)They seem to be truly inhibited about calling a win a win!
Please. Ryan is a fascist! He'd send this country back to the 1950s and destroy the safety net. Do we have to give him a "win" on anything? He has no credentials of note, not even a Masters degree.
There's no way that the MSNBC crowd would accept this other than that they have to put on this "professional" act and all that is about is kissing right wing a$$. the $$ being their paychecks and the income of the MSM from dirty right wing bucks

(39,332 posts)They chose the stories and the headlines. I have to keep up with their take on things to understand the process. However it looks barely honest at this point. But you may be right, maybe they don't matter so much.

(3,526 posts)Thanks to the GOP constantly trashing the "liberal" media (owned by large conservative corporations who support the GOP), the vast majority of Americans no longer trust the media to tell the truth on any subject.
The comments by Big Head Ed, Tweety, and any of the talking heads on any other network have largely become irrelevant.
Johonny
(20,909 posts)as a HUGE win. Ed tried to make base unhappy with Obama, then complains when Dems appeal to the base. Just goes to show it will be a another month before the media remembers to say good things about Obama to us again.

(129,657 posts)was for them to say - "well doesn't this take the Democrats 'out of the hole' and back to a tie?".
This is just BULLSHIT.
We cannot fall into the RW meme of bashing the President to enhance and cheer on Biden when the two are a team.
And Tweety - he usually trumpets anything "Irish" (and no offense to the Irish) - even if they are rethugs like Gingrich. Yet he had to weathervane it to try to make it appear to temper it because Biden did EVERYTHING that Tweety demanded be done last week and now he welshed on it.

Wonder why they needed to put that tabloid headline on the program..
Do you remember who said the Dems are back to a tie? Was that last night after the debates?
BumRushDaShow
(129,657 posts)but it may have also been said last night. I was too busy screaming at the TV.

(39,332 posts)If the Republican Circuits were ever active in your brain, they could be reactivated! Ed seems to think that certain Democratic circuits are okay, unions for instance, but something is going on with him lately.
It's possible msnbc gave them all a good talking too about "balance" or some such code word

(1,033 posts)Romney's post-debate bounce comes almost entirely from Republicans becoming fired up and Democrats becoming demoralized. He has gained very little from independents or Democrats, and leads (slightly) in likely voter polls but trails (solidly) among registered voters.
That means Biden had to get Democrats back into it. Let's face it, most on the left were down and out after last week's debate. The vice president did a great job of playing to the base and getting them back into it.
He also set the table for Obama to get a debate win coming up. Biden reminded voters of Romney's 47 percent comments, drew a direct line from the Romney/Ryan ticket to both the Bush administration and Congress, and called the ticket out on their BS.
Mission accomplished.
flamingdem
(39,332 posts)Maybe if they would use "Democrats" I could buy it because that is what matters now. I can accept somewhat that Obama turned off the base but I was so turned off by Romney that it was a shock MSNBC was pumping him as a winner. Fox would never do that for Biden or Obama, not that we want to be like them but at this point we need the momentum that comes from positive statements for the critical undecideds..

(34,845 posts)He's right. It did help rev up the base. And it probably did more good than that. Sorry but it sounds like you're looking for a dark lining in a silver cloud.
