It never ceases to amaze me how absolutely STUPID some people are. This lady is obviously collecting Social Security, probably uses Medicaid and probably gets dozens if not hundreds of senior discounts on everything she uses or purchases, she's standing on public property... and she probably hates socialism too.

During Hardball today, Chris Matthews was doing his "talk to the crowd" shtick outside the VP debate in Danville, Kentucky, when he was rudely interrupted by a Romney supporter shouting "communist" over a conversation Matthews was having with someone else about the state of health care in America.

Rather than let it slide, Matthews decides to have to some fun, and confronts the kneejerk about her remark.

DU is a great place to inform people about the injustices and impacts of stereotypes they've never even thought of. Every time the topic of prejudice against poor southerners gets pointed out, a few more people are made aware of the complexity of the south, the country, and the world. I'm glad to have DU for that.

...folks are still using the term "redneck" to designate people who are "less than," and ignoring that it is an inherently classist and regionalist term. The term "redneck" is almost always meant to imply poor and therefore "trashy" people from the south.

It's easy to see it as no big deal when it isn't your friends living in shitty trailers, getting felony records for drug offenses, and being generally viewed as unclean and inferior for their poverty, poor health, and lack of access to education.
