6. In these parts, if you are anything to the left of Dwight Esienhower......

.....the safest way of hoping that your ballot will not be discarded is to cast it in person at the poll on election day. Even then, it is paramount that a person stand there and watch until the ballot is inserted into the ballot box by the poll worker. The people here can tell by looking at you that you are a not a red neck, like they are. Sad but true.

On the other hand, there is never a line waiting to vote, because there just aren't that many people.

I have my absentee ballot, still trying to muddle through the legal language in the local county proposals. If they don't make sense by tomorrow night, I'll vote "no" on all of them and take the ballot to the city clerk on Monday.

I'm sure some lawyer thinks these things are written clearly. Like any good sentence should be 500 words long and have at least nine negatives negating.

Michigan does not allow one to pick up absentee ballots for others, even handicapped family members.

My wife and daughter are both handicapped. They couldn't accompany me to city Hall. So, I got to carry my ballot home. They have to wait for it to arrive in the mail tomorrow.
