Can we report this somewhere?! I don't see much separation of church and state here...

But then again this is freakin' red state hell...AKA South Carolina...

Biblical principles will work for America
As a pastor of a conservative Christian church, I have been asked by several people about Christians voting for a Mormon for president (since most conservative Christians do not believe Mormons to be Christians - a topic for another letter). I have also read many online articles and blogs since many Christians seem to be struggling with this as the election approaches. Therefore I would like to share what I believe to be good guidelines for this, guidelines I have shared with Sumter Bible Church and others who have asked me.
When we vote, we are voting as Americans selecting a president, not as church members selecting a pastor. It would be a rare situation to find a presidential candidate that would fit every Christian church's qualifications and expectations for pastor since even protestant denominations differ in their requirements and doctrine. There is not always a Christian candidate available for president, and conservative Christians learned in the 70s that just because a candidate is a born-again Christian, that does not automatically guarantee them that they will be satisfied with his policies or performance.
So how do I counsel those who ask for guidance? As Christians we are to obey Bible commands and follow Biblical principles. Since there are no Bible commands to obey regarding for whom to vote (or for which party to vote), we must follow Biblical principles in this area. There are many of them to guide us in decisions of life. Biblical principles work whether they are being followed by a Mormon or a Muslim. They work for Christians and atheists. Biblical principles work for rearing children, for choosing friends, for choosing a spouse, for living a life of peace and joy. Biblical principles work. They work because they are from God, not because of who is following them. Biblical principles support pro-life. Biblical principles support the traditional family and condemn the gay and lesbian lifestyle. Biblical principles support tithing. These are only a few examples of Biblical principles that our Mormon candidate follows.
So if a Christian chooses not to vote for a Mormon, the reason should not be because of his religious affiliation. One can claim to be a Christian and not follow Bible principles. Following Biblical principles will work for America. Let's support those that support Biblical principles more frequently.

Am I wrong in reading that a church official is counseling his flock to vote a certain way?! I can't believe that in this day in age we still have to read this crap. This paper is the ONLY local paper around and is clearly a right-wing mouthpiece rag. Every time I read a LTTE that espouses a democratic point of view is is ripped apart by 3 or 4 letters for the next few days.

I hate this place.

is so-called "Christian" leaders support the GOP candidate solely on the basis of the following criteria:
(1) They are anti-choice (even in the case of incest, rape or maybe even the life of the mother)
(2) They are rabidly anti-LGBT...they oppose protections in employment, housing, marriage, etc.
(3) They oppose all "non-white" people (except for Asians that make lots of money and give it to them)
(4) They oppose immigration reform
(5) They love guns...somehow they equate Jesus with guns...I don't get it....
(6) Let the little people pay taxes
(7) Let's merge the government with our X-tian beliefs

What they do when they support these candidates is to ignore Jesus' example
(1) Love your neighbor as yourself
(2) Providing "free healthcare" to the sick
(3) Feeding the hungry and needy
(4) Embracing the lowest among us (Can you imagine Robme at a homeless shelter without a hermetically sealed bubble suit?)
(5) Taxing the rich and paying to Caesar what is Caesars
(6) Loving your enemy as yourself

They seem to have forgotten those things...Oh well...I think maybe they cut those sections out before they distribute to their members

One of them, I swear, came down to "do I vote for the Mormon or the Marxist?"

I can't see that they're managing any kind of consensus. I bet a fair number won't vote or will vote third party.
