for a routine well care check? I just got a call from our health insurance company telling me that I should get my pap smear test scheduled and they offered to make the appointment for me? This has never happened before.

(21,172 posts)Never before have I had a call like this for her. They said it is now a medicare requirement that she has a yearly checkup. And if she wasn't able to come in they would send a doctor to her house for a checkup. They also call me, and email me about coming in for a mammogram. Something I should do but I was so freaked out by my last one I will not do it anytime soon. But I will get a pap smear. and physical when I find the time.

I have to fight to see a doctor at the clinic, my Rheumatologist is only there once a month and they never know which day. If I want to try and see my 'regular' doc, I have to call the same day and hope they aren't full by 8:30...
then again, I have Medi-CAL, so I am beneath wellness checks, right?

(1,663 posts)I have Multiple Sclerosis and the first time I received a letter stating I had a case manager I was not too happy. My first thought was that it meant they were going to start denying me services. It actually turned out to be the opposite and they would help fast track approval for many procedures.

(9,213 posts)They call and offer free "health coaching" and stuff cause they know healthier members leads to a better return for them. Nothing wrong with that.

(10,942 posts)I live in a state where wellness is valued. Plus, if I stay well and others stay well, the insurer can pocket more of the premiums. I am ok with that as long as sick people get properly cared for.

(5,299 posts)initially diagnosed with Diabetes, we were harrangued by a company under contract with Cigna to "help" us with our treatment.
I lost count of how many messages they left for this "service" before we were able to tell them to go away (due to experiences in the 60's where I was subjected to inappropriate touching from a stranger who was the "school doctor" I have a major distrust and antipathy towards unsolicited medical advice, even when it comes from a professional).
They reluctantly accepted this when we pointed out my wife is an RN, and there was nothing they could tell us that she didn't already know.
