Romney's remarks about people getting health care in the ER are worse than they sounded at first

Not only does he seem to be completely, though puzzlingly, unaware that you can't get a colonoscopy, mammogram, bone scan, routine labwork, chemotherapy, etc, etc, etc in the emergency room--which would be bad enough....

He seems to be completely unaware that even treatment in an emergency room has to be paid for by the person getting it, unless they're on Medicare or Medicaid or are already so assetless and desperately poor that the hospital won't bother trying to go after payment.

“No, you go to the hospital, you get treated, you get care, and it’s paid for, either by charity, the government or by the hospital."

"It's paid for...." He does not know that the emergency room does not provide free care.

He has no idea that people can be bankrupted by medical bills, even bills from the famously benevolent emergency room. He has no idea that people might roll the dice and decide not call the ambulance, in case it's just a case of indigestion that could end up making them lose their home or get kicked out of their apartment. He just doesn't know.

Yet one more example of how he is COMPLETELY unaware of how real life works for most of the people he would like to govern. Maybe he would be horrified to learn that most people aren't able to just call the ambulance or go to the doctor without a care in the world, secure in the knowledge that "charity" will take care of it if the government won't and the hospital won't provide care for free. But the fact that he doesn't know it, and that he doesn't have a clue who actually does pay for care in the ER, means that he wouldn't try to do anything about it, even if he did care.

however do NOT know this. Its a common Faux point and for those who are dittoheads or only listen to Faux, they simply do not know and believe you CAN get care and treatment at the ER for free. So Rmoney gets to diminish the common good of the ACA and strike a common, chord with the LIVs at the same time who believe Obamacare is socialism.
