I recall a number of GOP talkers insisting that they use President Obama's full name not for any racist overtones or attempts to convey a psychological message, claiming instead that they were simply using his full name as a sign of respect or whatever. This was an obvious lie from the first moment that it was uttered, but let's assume that they were being honest.
(Ha ha ha! Excuse me--I had to chuckle for a moment after that last sentence.)
Anyway, why haven't I heard any of them refer to Romney as "Willard?" Isn't that his real name, and wouldn't it be respectful or whatever to use it?
Or maybe "Willard" doesn't get good results with focus groups? Or maybe they were just a bunch of racist assholes in the first place?
Been wondering...

(146,320 posts)It is his first name, after all. When I was a boy, I was known by my middle name. When I became an adult everyone called me by my first name. It's a matter of respect. So, Willard Romney is running for office. To show my level of respect for him, I always refer to him as Willard.
Wasn't there a famous movie with his name as a title? I seem to remember something about that. He should be proud, I think, of his name. It's famous.
