Vancouver (WA) Democrats targeted with tomatoes

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A prank that started with a few thrown tomatoes now has Vancouver police on alert.

Officers are investigating letters left at the homes of Democrats throughout the city, according to a notice sent to neighborhood association leaders.

The author of the letters admits to throwing tomatoes at houses that have Obama signs in the front yard. The tomato tossing occurred in the middle of the night.

It all started months ago at the headquarters for Clark County Democrats, according to treasurer Marsha Manning.

At heart it's a blue-collar "Reagan Democrat" kind of town, but it's in the Portland Metro area, so it's gentrifying and becoming more affluent and socially liberal. At the same time, it attracts a lot of the taxes-are-a-great-evil-and-personal-affront types, since WA has no income tax, and OR, just across the river, has no sales tax.
