I asked him what he thinks about Romney (gingerly, so as not to set him off). His response knocked me back a bit. He said he ISN'T VOTING this year because he does not like either candidate. This is his way of conceeding that Romney/Ryan totally suck. My brother is a two issue voter, guns and Muslims (he is a paranoid racist, the only Republican in our family).
Hey, one step back for Romney is one step forward for Obama!

(3,784 posts)My friend who is a Paulbot, absolutely HATES Mitt Rmoney, and has told me all along that he's voting for Gary Johnson admitted to me last night that he's probably going to vote for Obama because he doesn't want to take a chance that Rmoney will win (he hates him that much). Score another one in the "Republican/Libertarian voting for Obama" column!
Oh, and by the way, thank you so much for adding the word "away" to your subject title. LOL!!!

(62,683 posts)to allow concealed weapons on Amtrak. Romney's gun history -- signing into law a permanent assault weapons ban in MA.
But then Obama's a Muslim, so I guess that won't get your brother to pull the lever for him.
I'll take the non vote, though, with gratitude.

(71,611 posts)"R" stands for "Republican" and not "rifle." Guns are just a convenient lever to rouse the rabble (idiots). If the GOP didn't leverage a "market basket" of single-issues ... for the mindless single-issue voters ... they'd cease being a "political" party.

(23,973 posts)Romney voted for more anti-gun legislation that Mr. Obama ever has, in fact, as president, Mr. Obama has been PRO 2nd Amendment issues.
The NRA just showed that they are nothing but prostitutes for the Republican Party with that idiotic move.

(4,558 posts)I'm spending a lot of time with them right now because of a family medical emergency. My aunt is so hyper right-wing religious that she a turn off to most of us in the family (who are mostly Republican). But even she says she can't vote for Ronmey. She says she can't vote for a cult member. His Mormon faith doesn't play well among fundamentalists.

(45,319 posts)and they deny the virgin birth of Jesus, they say Mary was knocked up by Joseph not by the divine. Christians allegedly find the virgin birth to be important and last I checked the idea of multiple gods was antithetical to their faith. Islam puts both Jesus and Mary on a higher level than Mormonism does, and of course Islam is very much monotheistic there is just the one deity, the creator and no other. I hope all the Fundies are thinking about the statement they make with their vote for the first polytheist to seek high office in the US.

(885 posts)My parents are Republicans as well. They argued with me during the 2008 election because they were upset that I switched my party from Republican to Democrat just to vote for Obama.
However, I still vote across party lines. I'll vote for dems, repubs and ind if I believe it's what's best.
Just last week I showed my parents my selections. Obviously the Obama/Biden ticket for POTUS and Bill Nelson (I'm from Florida). Pretty much every other selection locally was republican.
This astounded them. Both told me they are not voting because they don't like either candidate.
I had to convince them to at least go an vote for or against the amendments on the ballot.
On the other hand, yesterday I found out that my sister-in-law and her boyfriend (republicans) who have made some pretty racist comments against Obama in the past are voting for Obama because, "Romney is crazy, he's a liar and he can't be trusted."
Woo hoo!

Propaganda works. The Republicans know this in a way that the Democrats don't.

(5,912 posts)For my dad and two of my brothers, that's all they listen to. If you point out facts, they don't want to listen because it's not what they want to hear.
My parents vote strictly on who the NRA is best to preserver their gun rights.
With one exception. The only time I've seen them vote for a democrat was Clinton.

(5,023 posts)My family is from a Red state. I think the electoral votes are in favor of Obama and less so for national polls, because Repukes tend to clump together. A Red state is going to be heavily red, since they tend to be rabid about their beliefs, alienate and make life rough for anyone who has a rational view of issues. Their lack of curiosity leads them to stay in one place and never venture far from home. Being a half breed also makes acceptance from either party difficult. I've tried to be a Republican in the past. I just couldn't do it, I couldn't turn my brain off to their hidden (or less hidden) acceptance of bigotry, plutocracy, and war mongering.

(18,186 posts)This is what I'm hearing as well. People are just deciding not to vote rather than vote for "the black dude or the cult member."
Suits me!
A non-vote is better than one for Money Boo Boo
Obama HAS TO WIN or we are SCREWED.

(7,725 posts)in regards to Mittfalca's pathalogical flip flopping, moderate in the morning, extreme conservative at noon, etc., any low info voters he gains with that sleazy tactic he may lose wingnuts, fundies, Ron Paul supporter-types.

(62 posts)I have several Libertarian friends and co-workers and, without exception, they all HATE Romney. And I mean HATE the guy--more than they hate Obama. Most are voting for Gary Johnson, 1 is voting for Obama. I also have some moderate Republicans friends, I'd estimate that about 50% are voting for Romney and about 50% aren't voting at all. I live in a very conservative area and I can count on one hand the number of Romney bumper stickers I've seen, and I've seen zero Romney yard signs. In 2008 it was quite different in that there were a TON of McCain bumper stickers and yard signs. I know the town I live in will never go for Obama but I'm going to be very interested to see how Romney fares against McCain's numbers from 2008. (FYI, I live in California so I'm not worried Obama will lose the state, it's just the town I live in is deep red).
