Democratic congressional challenger John Ewing is trying to counter a controversial attack ad with his first commercial of the general election.

In an email to supporters on Wednesday, he sought $25,687 to keep the advertisement on the air.

The campaign for his opponent, Republican Rep. Lee Terry, has already bought most of the airtime it plans to use over the next four weeks, campaign manager David Boomer said. Terry reported raising $489,739 last quarter, which runs from July through September.

In all, Terry had raised $1.86 million and had $276,312 cash on hand Sept. 30. Terry aims to raise about $2 million each election.
