Just got home from our big, organizational OFA GOTV meeting. We'd hoped that forty people would attend - we had more than eighty.
And before getting into the nuts and bolts of what we'll be doing in the coming days, we got a brief rundown on what we've been doing so far. Best report dealt with our voter registration efforts: by the end of the last day to register (yesterday), we'd exceeded our high-end expectation by 150%; we registered over 6000 voters in the county!
We registered Democrats, Republicans, and independents in just about equal numbers. As we were entering the data from all those forms yesterday, people kept coming in to our field office to register, including a number of unaffiliated voters who told us they would be voting for Obama; and a couple of those independents asked if they could volunteer to help us get out the vote.
I listened to those conversations as I sat at the computer doing data entry. Made me smile. Made all of us smile.
We do haz the awesome!

(22,109 posts)For the work you are doing and the much needed optimism and positivity.
I love hearing on the ground reports like this.
If you get a chance, please pass on my sincerest gratitude to your colleagues, too. (I've moved to the other side of the world but if I was there I certainly would be joining in and helping out)

(4,119 posts)Sometimes shit just happens. BUT in a way the last debate, I think, gave us the kick in the ass we needed. We were getting too over-confident and complacent and cocky. Hubris never ends well. Let's keep that in mind when the numbers shift.

(60,010 posts)aka my neighborhood and teeny town.
There are NO yard signs up. A month before the election, not a sign.
If they were up, they would be for Romney.
The same conservatives who surround me, who had McCain signs up in 2008, have NONE up this year.

(4,461 posts)... My neighborhood had a lot of McCain/Palin signs in '08, and I saw a lot of bumper stickers around town. I now have seen 5 yard signs in my neighborhood (and two of those just went up since the debate), and I can count the number of Romney bumper stickers I've seen on two hands. The enthusiasm for Romney just doesn't seem to be there. Maybe its because we're not a swing state and the RNC and the Republipacs aren't buying ads here, but I hope its a nationwide trend.

(60,010 posts)In 2008, we were not a swing state either
but the McCain signs were all over the place.
2 of my neighbors are realtors, usually have signs up for local, state and National elections.
Like you, I hope this is a trend.
