Doherty's mother Barbara, however, wasn't so charmed by the story. She told Boston television station WHDH-TV:
"I don't trust Romney. He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda. It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama."

(24,411 posts)I hope Mitt stops with his "I'm so overwhelmed by this" crocodile tears tour.
The fact that he is lying about his connection to Doherty is really beyond the pale. As reported by Doherty's friend--Romney introduced himself to Doherty four times, because Romney was so flip and dingy. He never remembered meeting Doherty over and over--four times--so he kept re-introducing himself to Doherty.
What a schmuck Romney is.

Republican hypocrisy. Obama was attacked by the Repubs for taking all of the credit from the Seals for the bin Laden raid when he didn't. Did any Repubs attack Romney for using Doherty?
Of course not.

(6,335 posts)House Republicans cut the administrations request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administrations request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans proposed cuts to her department would be detrimental to Americas national security a charge Republicans rejected.
Ryan, Issa and other House Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under Ryans budget, non-defense discretionary spending, which includes State Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security.

(9,600 posts)Mitt said there is an opportunity here. Let's use someone else's good name, honor, and sacrifice to polish my political ambitions. Is it true what I, Mitt Romney, say? Naw, they will eat this story up. So what if it is all a lie!

(52 posts)Martin Bashir spoke to Doherty's sister:
Producers for MSNBC's Martin Bashir spoke with Glen Doherty's sister, who confirmed that Romney and Doherty had met at a party "two or three years ago" and that the campaign had reached out to his family through an intermediary. The family also knew there was a possibility Romney would be telling the story on the campaign trail.
Not sure if it was covered on yesterday's show or if it's going to be on today's. Or at another time.
