I'm concerned . . . .

. . . . . about the kook Supremes weighing in on affirmative action issues.

White people - who are demonstrably favored by "society" - can whine all they like about being screwed by affirmative action. The fact is, they're still not. Yes, a young woman may have been denied college admission as some seats went to non whites, but it would have been illegal if a less qualified person were given the seats. I think it is safe to assume that she lost the seat to an equally qualified person. All affirmative action does is level the playing field.

I am in favor of it.

I would like to see it expanded to protect any class of people who suffer discrimination.

I read some Briefs and the lower courts' ruling on this case ... according to the U of Texas, based on her grades and test scores, she wouldn't have gotten into the U of Texas regardless of her race ... even is she had been Black AND received AA consideration.

These "reverse discrimination" cases always amaze me ... some white guy/gal doesn't get something and it's the Black guy/gal that took "their" spot; not the hundreds of white legacy/special consideration admissions, and certainly not the hundreds of athletic admissions.

FYI:

In this case, the U of Texas presented evidence at trial of 113 Black candidates that, like Fisher, fell outside of the "Top 10% of the graduating class guaranteed admission" rule; but had higher test scores and/or grades, and were also denied admission. Further, the U of Texas presented evidence of 97 white candidates that had lower test scores and/or grades that were offered admission.

I am also amazed at how little play these topics generate on this formerly liberal discussion board.

Do you have a link to your earlier thread?

To understand why these topics get so little play ... Might I suggest you start a thread entitled "White Priviledge" or "Liberal Racism", and provide examples; then read the comments that follow.

I hear that alot and my response is always GTFOOH.

On a side note, I have a buddy that owns a small concrete/paving contracting firm. He has a crew of 7, 5 of them are undocumented. Though he pays well above the prevailing wage, he can't keep "american" workers. He describes that his undocumented workers show up to the worksite early and get to work on the whistle, work throughout the day and call it a day at quitting time; whereas, the "american" workers, arrive at the worksite at starting time (meaning they pull up to the worksite and then spend the next half hour preparing to work), then they take a water break, followed by a smoke break, followed by a "What I did last night break", and then stop working about a half hour before quitting time. If my buddy says anything to the "american" workers, they get huffy and quit.
