If I were a Republican I'd be upset about the PBS Romney profile

But I'm not... so I find it amusing.

They were showing clips from it on MSNBC yesterday that kept coming back to how Mitt Romney cannot talk in public about what is most important to him. He is moved and inspired primarily by family history--his grandfather's righteous struggles to rise up in the world in the face of persecution.

But since the story that most shapes his sense of himself happens to be the story of the rugged self-reliance of a polygamist compound in Mexico on the run from American law he can't talk about it.

It's not that he lacks a core humanity... but he has to be false all the time because what matters to him cannot be discussed. Because it is insane and loathsome...

Yeah... that's sad. He has to hide his rich humanity from the world because his greatest hero is some outlaw pervert religious fanatic.
