I can't deny I'm nervous. Obama is holding his lead, and I see the polls moving back in his favor, but I also see Romney take a half point lead on the RCP average for the first time this year.
I can't deny I'm nervous.
But I'm also a political jock. Now I don't want to be crass, but the way some guys follow football, or the NBA, that's the way I enjoy Politics, with a sense of civic duty attached to process, and what we are witnessing is the biggest political moment of our generation.
I am so fucking excited to be alive for this!
The drama is so acute. We were winning, but now we're down. The scale has tipped, is it temporary?
First test is the VP debate. You know Biden would gnaw off his own leg to help Obama get re-elected, and Paul Ryan would gnaw off Biden's leg to kill Medicare. Do you know what Joe Biden would do after getting both his legs gnawed off?
He'd get up. That's Joe Biden's great strength.
The VP debate promises to be bloody...for the other guy. My heart is with Joe, and so is my money.
Just a reminder of Joe's debate skills
And the drama continues - If Obama is still behind in any polls by that time, he's got 1 chance to turn it around. So what does fate hand him?
A town hall format...The second test of Romney's bump. Obama relating to people, contrasted to Romney trying desperately to relate to people. One on one interactions with people. That's Obama's great strength.
Here's a reminder of Obama's effect on people:
Honestly, if Barack Obama can't turn this opportunity into a deal-sealing event, then maybe no one could, and maybe we never had a chance in the first place. If that's truth, then it's better to deal with the reality of it now.
However, I do not believe this to be true. Instead I am struck speechless by the realization that we are watching a moment that will be remembered for generations. The next debate, rightly so or not, will be seen as Barack Obama's qualifying moment in history. Do you think he's up to it?
I'm nervous, but not out of fear.
The coming week will either change everything, or it will change everything, and I feel it. I think I see the ending. I Am S0 fucking excited to be alive for this moment...

I think Biden will be just fine on Thursday. I heard a reporter ask Biden how he was prepping for the debate to which Biden replied that he was concentrating on Romney's & Ryan's policy positions--especially budget details. It sounds like Biden is preparing to pounce on any flip flop or lie. I hope Obama is doing the same.

(24,096 posts)I think I started reading DU earlyish on in Bush's first term. There was always something to be sick to the stomach about. those where awful years I don't have to say.
But I think this will be my last emotional investment in this game, this election. If Obama wins that would be sweet as all heck and I can retire my angst, finally, aftr all this time. And if Mitt and his traitors cheat to win it, I'm done then too knowing that nothing can be done after he gets through with us and my swearing rages won't do anythng but upset myself.
demwing
(16,916 posts)but I agree with your final points. Like I said, the next week either changes everything, or it changes everything.

As for the Obama's hug clip. I so wish he had channeled Zach Braff and yelled out EEEEAAAAGLLLEE!

(13,485 posts)one of the most important turning points in out nation's history. There is no room for error in our choice of POTUS. Which ever way it goes, America will never be the same. It's my children's America, and my grand children's America... and on, and on.
Human rights will survive. They must.
