An acquaintance of mine lives on disability because she has MS. She's been posting all sorts of repug crap - the same stuff you hear from Rush and the other repugs, like Obama cooked the job numbers - on facebook for all her friends to see. I finally had enough and posted something rude (like "shut up" and of course I was de-friended.
Don't people who depend on things like disability, and other benefits, realize they support the party that sees programs like that, as evil socialism? Even more, Ryan said he does not believe in "altruism". Didn't she hear about the Romney comments on entitlement for 47%? Is there a parallel universe out there? Am I dreaming? How can anyone be so stupid? (e.g. they vote against their own economic self interest). ARGH!!!!!

(3 posts)LOL.
Yea there are so many people out there who want to give up working so they can get the measly amount of money that disability gives them. its not even enough to survive.
And u actually support cutting benefits THAT THEY ACTUALLY PAID INTO THEMSELVES THIER WHOLE LIVES.
Its not acting "entitled" when u ask for what is due to you!
How can u guys vote for romney?
The guy actually said he enjoys firing people and he made his careeer by shutting down american plants.

(1,417 posts)He lost his job, so without those food stamps his family would be in even more trouble. However, the President's skin color seems to be more of a concern than his family not having food on the table. The sad part is that this idiot complains about the "lazy" minorities being on welfare and claims the President is more concerned about helping them. It is really sad and pathetic.

(45,851 posts)Listen closely to Republican rhetoric and you'll start to hear the dog whistles, your acquaintance knows the Republicans aren't talking about her but rather about Cadillac driving welfare mothers and their strapping young baby daddys buying t-bone steaks and forty ounce malt liquors with welfare money.
Once you learn the code and what they're really talking about you'll be rather less perplexed and more disgusted.

(578 posts)"In social psychology, the fundamental attribution error (also known as correspondence bias or attribution effect) describes the tendency to over-value dispositional or personality-based explanations for the observed behaviors of others while under-valuing situational explanations for those behaviors. The fundamental attribution error is most visible when people explain the behavior of others. It does not explain interpretations of one's own behaviorwhere situational factors are often taken into consideration. This discrepancy is called the actorobserver bias."
In a nutshell, when *I* have to go on food stamps, it's because I'm a victim of bad circumstance. When someone else has to go on food stamps, they are doing it because of an intrinsic character flaw - they are lazy and unwilling to get a "real" job. The cognitive dissonance is breathtaking.

"But my SS is written in stone! They can't take that away!"

(18,186 posts)He is brainwashed and tends to believe everything he is told, but part of his deal is that on that ( Very Italian ) side of my family, there has been a falling out.
All of us have been diehard Dems, from our immigrant Grandma who always said, "FDR was our friend." But my cousin is angry at his Dem brothers ( with good cause but that's another story ) so I think he likes to play with Repukes as a way to disavow his siblings.
And part of it is the media, because he has all day to love on Glen Beck and FOX.
We go back and forth, but yesterday, I just had it, and decided I wasn't arguing any more. Ryan/Rmoney are very clear on how they view Social Security, and I am absolutely floored that people on SS would support them, so I am going to repeat that to everyone I know on SS.

(1,370 posts)frustration. My daughter has a friend who was injured badly, almost died 10 years ago at the age of 14 in an automobile accident. He's confined to a wheelchair and absolutely would rely on SSI to survive were he not living at home. He went to school on Pell grants. He reaps the benefits of the ADA everywhere he goes. You can be sure his single mother pays no income tax (she works as a gas-station cashier) and I suspect probably qualifies for and receives food stamps. He lives at home and takes his disability check to the casinos at the first of every month, where he posts Facebook updates on his poker and slots until the money runs dry again, till next month. He and his chain-smoking mommy are both rabid republicans.
Stupid little shit probably has a Romney/Ryan sticker on the back of his chair.

(19,814 posts)on disability. Dont these people realize if this clown is elected we will loose everything? Food stamps, housing, medical, it goes first. Where are you going to live when they pull housing assistance? Who can afford to live in a $600.00 apt and get 700.00 in disability. You cant do it. Homeless.

Why would they vote against their own economic self-interest, among other things? They're (purposely) distracted by buzzwords and well-painted enemies of our country (read: anyone republicans don't like), etc. And/or their memories are too short-term to remember that republicans have been voting against more jobs purposely in order to claim it's Obama's fault.

He got laid off because he took too much sick leave. He's facing foreclosure, and is constantly begging us and our other friends for money.
