Gas was Below $2.00 when Obama took office

I have heard that repeated several times. But I live in Northern VA and I seriously don't recall gas being under $2 around here since the early 2000's.

I tried to look it up but all can are Anti- Obama websites repeating that statement. So DU what's the truth?

It's one of the worst half-truths out there. But hey, it's politics. It's up to our side to provide the other half of the story - that energy prices were at record highs only a few months earlier. All that happened under Obama was that energy prices rebounded to the Bush-era levels.

In short, gasoline prices now are roughly the same as they were under Dubya, not double.

So laughable that people think gas prices will magically decline if a white Republican male is in the WH....

is convinced the Keystone pipeline is the answer to our overpriced prayers. I told him the oil companies have a right to do whatever they want with oil they find in our country. Their is no guarantee the companies would use what they find to benefit us.

so you can imagine the screwing we're taking today.

The price of oil directly reflects how much the 1%'s want that white house job for one of their own. Lie, cheat or whatever it takes to get there too

I'd say a large percent of our fellow citizens don't like that we have a good honest black man running things right now and will support anyone who is from their own white mans club.

I'm an old white man myself and I love my black President.

Then tumbled as global financial crisis hit causing an huge drop in demand and price. You can google a chart of US gas prices for past ten years to illustrate this if you like. Republicans are simpletons though and they believe they have found a good one liner to help their cause so whenever possible combat their nonsense with facts. Northern VA? That's where all my teapot relatives live. Good luck!

Edited to add: I cannot believe republicans think people can't remember four years ago! I know they love changing history but this is ridiculous.

when the economy was crashing and congress passed TARP which caused gas prices to go down so consumers could afford.

I do remember it being clearly over $3 during the summer though.
