I posted this in V&M on Saturday... looks like fox and others are starting to report on this.... looks like Dave has ruffled a few feathers:
Late night TV host David Letterman called Mitt Romney a "felon" and suggested he does not pay income tax -- despite the Republican presidential nominee recently releasing IRS documents showing he paid nearly $2 million just in 2011.
Letterman, host of CBS Late Show, made the comment Friday night when telling the audience about a recent poll on what Americans would most like to see.
Letterman said that 6 percent of Americans wanted to see Romneys tax returns.
"Yeah, we want to get a look at those tax returns because I believe we will discover that the man has not paid a nickel in United States federal income tax," Letterman said. "Thats right, we have a felon running for president."
Lettermans comment was similar to one made this summer by Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutters.
Cutter suggested in July that if Romney misrepresented on federal documents when he left his company Bain Capital, that would be a felony.
In July, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., citing an anonymous source, accused Romney of not paying any taxes for 10 years. Reid has not revealed where he got his information.
Meanwhile, a letter from Price Waterhouse Coopers states that Romney paid an average of 20 percent in taxes every year from 1999 to 2009. His 2011 taxes were mostly paid on investment income.

(22,651 posts)I agree, he must have had several ZERO tax years. I am ashamed some Americans accept this and will even vote for him.

(322 posts)That's laughable. At least make the figure believable. Why would a man who is proud to pay "only the taxes he legally owes and not a penny more" have paid a full 7 percentage points higher for a span of a decade? That makes zero sense. Not believing it until I see documentation. An not from an organization that would make any statement provided they were paid for it.
Whoever spewed that lie at PwC is a complete idiot. Believability is your first asset.

(29,322 posts)shortly after Romney's 47% quote where he says people that don't pay no income tax will vote for Obama. Letterman's joke was something like, "I guess that means Romney will be voting for Obama."
On edit - I'm actually pretty sure it was Leno. I remember watching him on the very rare incasion just to see Giancarlo Esposito

but unlike McCain, who showed up on Letter with 'hat in hand..'
after ditching Dave for Katie Couric..RMoney won't go near Dave..just watch.
Dave will be a punching bag of the right, like Palin painted him..
BUT... there will be an eroding effect of RMoney on young voters...
coz the kids love Dave!
