That's The Wheel of Time series so far, with a last book to come out soon. The original author, Robert Jordan, died, but he has notes and they will be finishing the novels for those like myself that have been following the series for past two decades now. I've been reading the series since I was in high school.

A Song of Ice and Fire is excellent, and I read most of the books long before there was ever an inkling of a series, but Wheel of Time is epic. It hasn't really been utilized because the author was very sensitive of it being shown as anything other than exact intentions.
