Was Mittens' calling his sons liars supposed to be endearing?!1

He said he knows intimately about lying (besides doing it himself) directly because he bio-generated five sons. What a dad!1

And there are two threads (will link in a minute) about his empathy gap:

1) from DUer Spider Jerusalem’s thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021470386

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danhodges/100183875/last-night-mitt-romney-lost-yes-you-read-that-right/
There are three reasons why Romney experienced a soft implosion of his already tenuous electoral chances. First, there was no “gotcha moment”. Before the debate every political analyst, be they from the Left or Right, agreed that Romney had to land a knockout blow, which he didn’t.

There was no major presidential gaffe. No glancing at watches, sighing or claiming there has never been any soviet domination of eastern Europe. Crucially, in the new media age, there was no YouTube moment. In fact, the one single moment I suspect most voters will remember from the debate was Barack Obama sending his wife Michelle greetings on their wedding anniversary.

The second problem for Romney was that while he failed to land a knockout blow, he kept piling into him. He was aggressive, too aggressive.

This is Romney’s greatest weakness as a candidate. He lacks compassion. He comes across as one of those big businessman in old Westerns who turns up at the farm and explains to the widow that he needs to buy her land to make way for his new railroad, and if she knows what’s good for her, she’ll take him up on his kind offer. CNN’s post election poll found that two thirds of those who watched thought Romney put in the most effective performance. But only 46 per cent said they found him more likeable than Obama. Not only did Romney not land the knockout blow, he failed to close the empathy gap.

2) from DUer Heather MC's thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021472486

From a NON-political viewer of the debate:

“Ok my Friend has been going through a Divorce and a host of other issues, so keeping up with Politricks is not at the top of her Priority list.

Last week I asked if she was for republicans or democrats, she asked me which one is Obama? Seriously she is that not into politics but she votes.

So last night by accident she ended up watching the entire debates and she had this to say.

’I have not been following the elections at all. Last night was my first time paying attention, and I have to tell you, Mitt Romney is such a freakin jerk. How can anyone vote for this guy, he was over talking the President, and Yelling at the Moderater, he didn't look like a guy I would want to be President!’ "

I could see it resonating with people like my Mom, who raised three boys. We lied our asses off as teenagers about just about anything. Smoking, drinking, staying out all night while pretending to be "sleeping over" at a friend's house, providing a special phone number that was always busy.

Mom: So, what are you doing tonight?
Me: Oh, going to the movies. (Translation: going to hang out in the park and get shitfaced drunk and high).

Does this make me a "liar?" I guess, maybe. Since every other one of my friends, guys and girls, were pulling the same shit, I guess we all are, then. Hitting Mitt on this line feels off to me. I understood what he meant about parenting, even though my own kids are stil very young. I remember my brothers and I giving my folks all kinds of headaches, so the line seemed OK to me.

Mitt's an asshole, of course, but this wasn't an asshole moment to anyone but extreme Dem partisans.

Myth Romney: "Where did you learn to lie like this?!?"

Sons: "We learned lying from watching you! Okay??!!! We learned it from watching you!!"

Myth Romney (aside to self): "I don't lie. The truth just manages to change from time to time. A rapid evolution from time to time."

Bizarro Myth (aka spontaneous alter ego): "That's the ticket yeah....say hello to my wife, Morgan Fairchild."
