When you really reflect on the GOP's plan for women who want or need family planning no matter how young they are after they are of child bearing age. Once past puberty the religious right and GOP plan is that you must be celibate from puberty to menopause. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY FOR YOU TO HAVE FAMILY PLANNING AVAILABLE TO YOU.
Examine all the details of their arguments, their legislation and their rhetoric and that is the only conclusion that any women could conclude. In the days of feudalism it was "get thee to a nunnery".
GOP legislative agendas are about punishing women over their sexuality. It is a double standard when they have a different attitude towards men. Men have the freedom to do whatever they want. Take LEGITIMATE RAPE for example.
What is most egregious about their attitude is that women are good for only one thing. That is to enhance the ego of the man because he can father offspring. It does not matter that the man has no responsibilities. It is always the women's fault that they tempt men.
I cannot believe the insane beliefs we have in this 21st century where now women's rights always must take the back seat to what "virile" men want.
AFTER ALL THAT IS THE GOP WAY OF LOOKING AT WOMEN. "GET THEE TO THE KITCHEN" Why this attitude does not send every woman into a rage is beyond me. And look how quickly the "war on woman" has fallen off the radar in this campaign. And you will not hear a single question on the matter in the entire debate cycle.

(10,602 posts)They and the religious right believe that ABSTINENCE is the ONLY plan for family planning. Total abstinence before marriage and targeted abstinence after marriage when fertilization is not possible.
I spent 16 1/2 years in Catholic schools. And they did preach NO SEX except to create a child. It was a crazy idea then and the Church actually believes that now. That is the extreme fundamentalist decision that they essentially taught in the 1950's.
They have essentially taught a "catch 22" morality when it comes to human sexuality. One the one side they teach that if you want to plan your family you can only use targeted abstinence. ANY INTERFERENCE WITH PROCREATION IS A SIN THAT IS ARTIFICIAL EVEN MECHANICAL MEANS IS TABOO. And on the other hand priests used to tell couples that you can only engage in sexual intimacy when you can procreate.
And to add insult to injury it was sinful and taboo to have sexual thoughts if you are not married. And it would be sinful to have those thoughts even if you were married unless you were intending to have a child. It was really that crazy in my youth. By 23 I had had enough. I avoided the required Marriage And The Family Class until my last semester. The priest who taught it who we called Father Duck because he waddled like a duck was a complete overzealous nutcase.
I went to Catholic schools for 16 1/2 years and nuns and priests who taught marriage classes sold this garbage all the time back then. And when I look deeply into what fundamentalists are pushing they tend to believe the same thing.
Women really are ONLY vessels in their eyes. And they really do intend to instal a feudalistic attitude in this country. If they were really open about their complete details of their plans they could not win anything.

(13,468 posts)I have an extrem Catholic FB "friend" from high school and she says all this stuff and posts the "Obamacare kills babies" bull shit. I call her on her shit and she can't deal with it. She just spouts Bible verses at me when I try to explain separation of Church and State. She asks me why I "hate" her Church and I try to tell her it's not about how I feel about her Church, it's about Church bullying and interfereing in our rights via government. More spouting, she says that birth control is worshiping sex instead of God. If I provide stories of women dying from ectopic pregnancies in Catholic controlled countries she says "we don't always understand why things happen..." (like Hell, provide people with life saving alternatives and it doesn't happen.)
You can't talk to people who are so brain washed that they cannot comprehend why they don't have the right to push their religious "rules" on other people through the government. They can't see that anyone should have the right to think for themselves, they see other opinions as a fight against their rights. It is a way of thinking that is like the fucking Borg from Star Trek.

(10,602 posts)I was the victim of their bullshit for 23 years. My mother was a little nuts when I think about it and I feel sad about understanding her neurotic tendencies now. Her generation was raised under the severest form of Catholicism in her day. And I am sure her wackiness was caused by Catholic dogma.
I really hate the Catholic church and I know now why the Romans fed the Christians to the lions, but the lions would not eat them because the lions were so terrified of the cheering in the arena.
When religion begins to interfere with government and is inserting its belief system on nonbelievers, then criticism and push back is fair game to me.

(12,693 posts)It is the only explanation for a bunch of men to expend so much effort making women less sexually available.
It is similar to how big pharma wants to keep pot illegal because you can grow your own.
