Show someone dressed in a Big Bird suit walking down the street with head hung low.
"He taught your kids to read. He taught them numbers. He taught them social skills. He's been on the job so long he probably taught your mom too. Maybe your grandma."
Then show Big Bird turning and walking into an unemployment office, where he joins a line that snakes round and round...
"Mitt Romney wants to fire him to pay for a $5 billion tax cut for millionaires."
Cut to a pic of the president."I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message."

(2,391 posts)And you think a cultural icon being threatened with extermination by Willard won't resonate better than that? Do you honestly think young voters who grew up with Sesame Street care more about Big Bird or about Medicare and Social Security? A "loser topic" to you is an important one to others.
Ignoring social media is something I hope all repubs are doing. Their ignorance works for us.

(50,562 posts)The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is one of the best government programs - it is cheap and it works. That Romney plans to get rid of it to pay for meaningless tax cuts shows the true character of the man: he will destroy everything we hold dear to give himself a tax cut he won't notice.
Let's play with this. The cut Romney wants is $500 million per year for 10 years. If there are 100,000 people in the top bracket, and the whole cut went to them, each will receive $5000.(The real numbers are probably half that.) Top-shelf cigars cost $20 apiece...so smoking one every day will cost you more than you'll receive from this cut.
Is CPB's demise worth two-thirds of someone's cigar bill?

(2,391 posts)Easier yet, google "Romney Big Bird" and see how many hits you get.
Killing Big Bird resonates with many people. Young voters grew up with Sesame Street. Middle-aged voters grew up with Sesame Street! And now many love Downton Abbey. PBS resonates, especially Big Bird and little kids.

(25,699 posts)I'll agree, it's not ad-worthy, but frankly, it's sort of like Mitt went on stage and said "Rock and roll sucks, superman is a wuss, and your mom's apple pie can go get fucked"
