Goebbel's "Theory of the big lie" - "A lie so colossal..."

From Wikipedia: "a lie so colossal no one would believe someone would distort the truth so infamously"

"The Big Lie (German: Große Lüge) is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his 1925 book Mein Kampf, about the use of a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."

Aside from being tired, implementing the prevent defense - the huge lies on Romney's part just had him flabbergasted and he was never able to recover.

The rethugs are practicing a whole different and bizarre type of politics now and the Obama people have to adjust - we are dealing with monsters here.

once the media calm down on their hardon.

Wasn't Goebbel vilified once Germans found out about his devious lies?

See the same thing happening.

Like the "Obamacare took $718 billion away from Medicare!" Mitt just kept repeating that, last night, and in the campaign.

Repetition is also a core technique for advertisers and propagandists. Keep repeating your talking points and you bypass the rational portion of the brain.

It helps if your Big Lie also has an emotional component:

  • Obamacare takes money away from Medicare (Scares seniors!)
  • Obama is a Kenyan Muslim (Has components of both racial and religious bigotry!)

I'm sure people can add to the list!

You can call it out for what it is all you like.

But it works.

Nazi Germany. Even though our MSM suppresses as much of the truth in favor of the lies as they can, there still is an opposition media out there dedicated to getting the facts out on small cable channels, print media, radio and the internet. Although it's hard, the truth is out there available for Americans unlike for the Germans, who had to subscribe to foreign media, at a risk to themselves and their families if caught. Those in opposition usually ended up dead or in concentration camps alongside those who were removed because their ethnicity wasn't Aryan. Thank God we aren't there yet, but I fear for our country if the right wing extremist gain enough power to take over the country and then a license to purge all opposition, which is what their end game is.
