The left leaning pundits got played like fiddles...

Obama isn't the one that "lost" this debate, it's the massive overreaction by a good portion of the left leaning pundints and decided Democratic voters that make this a loss. Basically people were expecting Obama to leave Romney crying like a little baby, and when it didn't happen a lot of people freaked out. The very people who like to think the truth should be more important than style just completely turned that philosophy on its head.

Sure, it was lackluster on Obama's part and I was disappointed that he didn't hammer Mitt's medicare lie and have specifics about outsourcing tax cuts prepared, but the performance was hardly the disaster that it's been made out to be by some of you. Unfortunately, the huge very public overreaction by pundits and a chunk of Democratic voters who are scared out of their minds over a perceived lack of intelligence in independents in his favor (and their being swayed by Mitt confidently lying through his teeth) has probably helped the Republican party more than the actual debate ever could have.

While I don't think it will be nearly enough for Romney(thank God), it is frustrating to watch too many on the left just hand headlines to the Conservatives while completely ignoring the actual content of what was said. They did EXACTLY what they often complain about when it comes to modern debates and the msm: putting style over substance.

My advice: Just talk about the content of what was said rather than style or appearances. Other than this post, that's exactly what I'm going to do from now on. Push through the perceived stylistic victory Romney supposedly got and remind everyone of Romney's horrible voucher plan, the big lies he told, and his desire to murder big bird. There's still two debates to go, and Romney has been making a mess of his campaign for too long for a less than perfect debate performance by Obama to turn things around.

there are a lot of people who don't have the critical thinking skills to know when they are being lied to.

The challenger usually sees a short term bump in the polls after the first debate largely due to the reactionary style over substance crowd. It's not unusual. Nothing unusual or unexpected occurred today for those who have been paying attention to these things over the long term. Think about it... the challenger has had an entire primary season to warm up and is focused almost entirely on taking on the incumbent. The incumbent is dealing with the very real job of being president on a daily basis. Who is going to be sharper and more "awake" in the first debate? The worst thing that could happen is the more reactionary people on the left refuse to calm down and they keep pushing this "Obama lost" perception.

that Romney stood on the stage and told lie after lie.and never really got challenged..
now those lies are believed by millions and in a tight election that could be critical..

And style does matter....in a perfectly logical world it would not ..but this is not a perfect world and Obama's looking down on a split screen while Romney was looking straight at him and talking..made Obama look weak,,very weak..

to reply to the lies and half-baked half-truths when the idiot spouting them won't STFU. Had the President forcefully informed Rmoney that he was still speaking the right would have been all over him for being an "angry black man."

Can't win for losing.
