An annoying lie in CNN coverage of debate poll

Question 101
Regardless of which candidate you happen to support, who do you think did the best job in
the debate -- Barack Obama or Mitt Romney?

Denver, Colorado (CNN) – Two-thirds of people who watched the first presidential debate think that Republican nominee Mitt Romney won the showdown, according to a nationwide poll conducted Wednesday night.

According to a CNN/ORC International survey conducted right after the debate, 67% of debate watchers questioned said that the Republican nominee won the faceoff, with one in four saying that President Barack Obama was victorious.

Nobody said who won the debate because nobody was asked who won the debate.

This isn't a huge deal but it is indicative of a general disregard for the truth. If you want to determine who won you ask people who won. You don't assume that people equate "did the best job" with "won." Perhaps everyone does treat the two interchangably, or perhaps they do not. That's why you have to ask "who won."

CNN really is a shit operation.
