Romney's strategy: Pretend that Obama is/was Bush

Romney used "trickle down" early in last night's debate and it was one more example of them trying to pretend that Obama is Dubya. They are running away from their own damaged brand and their own policies. And when they talk about how things were "4 years ago" when Obama took office they pretend that Obama created the mess which he in truth inherited -- job losses, deep recession, wars, bin Laden running around loose.

Lehrer asked Obama to respond to Mitt's dishonest use of the phrase "trickle down". Here is what I wanted Obama to say then:

"Look. My opponent came in here tonight prepared to pretend that I am George Bush, that I presided over the 2008 economic meltdown, that I am the one who didn't kill bin Laden, that my policies are the failed ones of Bush that got us into this mess and not the policies that are getting us out of this mess. So let me be clear: Trickle down economics are THEIR policies and they don't work. They don't create jobs, they don't increase private spending.

The GOP is like a teenager that brings dad's car back whenever there is no gas in the tank -- they did it in 1992 and they did it in 2008. But in 2008 the economy wasn't just out of gas, it was wrecked on the side of the road. Now that "Dad" (motions to himself) has patched it up and put some gas in the tank they want the keys again. We already know what will happen if we do. In the words of a former First Lady: Just say no."
