Nice going morning Joe keeps playing the Criss Matthews "Mitt won" clip. With support Like that who needs Fox news.
Lose lips sink ships. Ok you did not like how Obama played last night, but going on record dissing your own team is not going to help.

(8,933 posts)no matter how 'good' he was at interrupting and talking over, everything he said was a lie. That should mean he lost. Period.

(32,086 posts)Tweety and all the other talking heads think that "winning" means dominating--regardless of whether or not that domination was with in the rules. And, as you point out, regardless of whether or not everything that came out of his mouth was lies and obfuscation.

(94,679 posts)...in the opinion of most viewers, because they don't know the facts and the President didn't challenge him on them. The goal isn't to get your opponent to say something false that you can then build an ad around; the goal is to challenge him in front of 60 million people.

(16,064 posts)lying and winning are not mutually exclusive,. If lies get you the votes you need, you win. Appearance over substance has won MANY national elections.
If the next 2 debates go like this one did , Romney has a real shot at winning the election.

(20,441 posts)If you are aggressive in your defense of the lie, it's seen as a net positive to people grading the debate. If you're polite and dignified in your defense of the truth and aren't willing to step on toes or be aggressive in the defense of truth, in contrast, you are considered a loser.
I think this is a great demonstration of why Al Gore lost to George W. Bush.
People would rather vote for somebody who appears strong and decisive, even if what they're strong and decisive in is lying and screwing the country. Bush was strong, but wrong. Gore was right, but weak.

(8,646 posts)I often point out to DUers that in Canada, when Jack Layton's NDP won official opposition (after being the 3rd party forever) part of it was because he didn't back down. Even my conservative loving family said things like, "Well, I'll hand it to him, even though I'd never vote NDP that Jack Layton sure means what he says!" or, "I don't agree with Jack Layton, but he never backs down from his beliefs." and "Jack Layton sure is strong and decisive!" I have not heard, in hard-core conservative-land where I live, one bad thing about Jack Layton during the elections. Now that Jack is gone, Thomas Mulcair, while not as 'happy' as Jack Layton was, also doesn't back down. My brother adores him, while wishy-washy Liberals get nothing from contempt from everyone I know.
I'd say a good 75% of the population make their voting decisions based on impressions and style and not substance. We all know President Obama is a cool guy, and very likeable, but he doesn't have to be aggressive to appear to be strong. That seems to be lost on his handlers. And, like you said, as we know from the Bush years, Strong in the US will win over truth every time.

(16,399 posts)There's no doubt there were several things Obama let Rmoney off the hook on. 47%, flip flop on GM, and the fact he WILL privatize social security. And he didn't have to yell about it. At NO TIME did Matthews say Rmoney was telling the truth or using facts....in fact, just the opposite....HE LIED HIS ASS OFF.

(21,977 posts)You may not want to admit it, but the Prez blew it last night. By not calling out Romney on his bullshit lies, Obama lost the debate. Admit it.
He's gotto do a lot more next time.
