Of course, this debate sucked for us. Felt awful. but not because of the president - ponder..

We are the "good guys" right? We believe in facts - truth is a basic tenet.

And this is a debate, which typically means a moderated event.

And what happened? An asshole that none of here have a shred of regard for stood up there, treated the president with the total disdain of one of his fired employees, ran roughshod over the moderator in some sort of bizarre, drug-like rant. Worse, he lied - blatant lies, repeated lies, proven to be false lies - endlessly. It felt like shit because that is what it was. Endless, spewing shit. And it represents everything that we here are not.

And we have our president - who has been busy (there is a lot going on in the country and world recently, yes?), absorbing lie after lie. His job was to be presidential, truthful, and rise above the lies.

Every one of us here I am sure fantasized our president shooting down each and every one of those lies..but would that have made him look any more presidential, or just someone who would sink to Romney's level? Obama's supporters still have him. Romney certainly did what he needed to - energized his supporters and perhaps kept a bit more money into the race from the deep conservative pockets.

But for those who sit in the middle - what did they really see? And are there enough of them at this point to really change things?

At least this is what I am now telling myself after an hour or so of pacing, gnashing of teeth, twittering away and watching all of the various reactions.

A bit over one month to go - and we have stark new exhibits of Mitt's spin and lies to turn into ads and talk about on the stump in battleground states.

Am I as confident as I was before the debate? Hell, after living through 2000 and 2004, can Dems ever be politically confident about anything, ever again?
